Heater blower replacement

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I write to you guys looking for help desperately. I have a mk2 fabia with a broken heater blower. After couple of weeks squealing, the fan stopped running. I checked and got the famous 4f9 error in the climatronic. I've been reading about the blower resistor issue but seems that's not my case. I removed the glovebox and was able to disconnect the blower, in order to take 12v directly from the car battery (so I would skip all the climatronic devices including the resistor). It was a good idea because the blower started to run again. I ran it in phase and reverse phase to clean the bearings, until it stopped squealing. Mounted back the glovebox and the problem seemed to be solved (the climatronic worked in all fan levels). BUT, guess what? after a couple weeks of perfect working, it's down again. I've been crazily checking all skoda forums, whole internet and can't find the answer to this question: is it possible to remove the blower without removing the whole dashboard? Thats the closest answer I've read on the web, but I'm desperate to avoid the 500€ work it means at the dealer.

If only I could reach to grease the blower bearings...

Thank you very much for your help!!

I would like to know as well as I have seen pics on the web of the bottom glovebox removed with the dash still in place as I will not remove the dash got a hacksaw and will use it on the back of the glovebox otherwise, seems like a poor design add your own word before poor. I can see two of the screws but not the other 3 I have just done the same job on my van total time 15 minutes to remove repair and refit.

Dont know if its in the same location but I just had the blower motor replaced under warranty and they did have to remove the whole dash. I just have normal air-con though, not climatronic, if that makes a difference.
