N reg Felicia 1.3Ltr Ignition switch problem, please help

Featured Replies

I've had an intermittent weird problem with my Felicia, for some time now. It will occasionally just cut out. I posted on here before about it, followed all the excellent advice, but to no direct effect sadly. However, I did eventually seem to overcome it by simply replacing several key components, one after another. Now though, it's returned, with the added annoyance of the ignition switch not engaging, unless I wiggle & push the key in certain directions.

So, I removed the steering column & upon inspecting the ignition switch, discovered that it has several cracks in the white plastic insert piece. This is retained by 3 ali tabs. When I tentatively released these tabs, that white plastic drum wanted to spring out. This suggested a complex spring & ball bearing contact mechanism to me, so I pushed it back home & secured those tabs.

So, do we think that this cracked ignition block could be responsible for the cut out problem?

Do you know whether I can safely remove that block to at least inspect it & perhaps affect a repair?

Can I get a replacement ignition block?

Thanks for your attention.

The ign switch box is removable it's held on with 2 small grub screws. It does sound like it could be your problem. Make a note of which wires go to what no terminal before removing them. .

Remind us what parts you've replaced in turn and your diagnose prior replacing each part (if any).
