Aux input on Stream & Audience HU's - Update

Featured Replies

Just to update everyone. I just got this email from Skoda UK regarding my query on this a few weeks back.

Ref: CH130879

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email and I apologise for the delay in reply.

The ‘Audience’ CD player can accommodate MP3 Files on a CD and an adaptor to connect your MP3 player to the audio unit will be available at the beginning of 2006.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Yours sincerely

Wonder if this mp3 adapter jobbie will work with the satnav on my new vRS - I've got used to having my entire music collection available in the car from the iPod - having to revert to CD's will be a bit of a culture shock

Sounds very interesting!!! Going to have to eep an eye out for the info on the mp3 adapter!

Just wondered will the adapter only be suitable for the audience HU or will it also work on the stream HU? Hard to tell from there reply.

they both use the same connector (called quadlock for some reason, but it's the replacement for ISO connectors on CAN-BUS cars), so there should be no problems.

meanwhile you could use an fm transmiter to connect your ipod to your stereo. They cann't be sold in the, as uk law says you need a licence to transmit, but can be bought over the internet (lots on ebay).

They are UK legal and are sold on www.ipodworld.co.uk . Sony had been selling CD multichangers with an fm transmitter so it works with any car for years (they don't bother now as there is no longer a market for them). it's the broadcast quality FM transmitters that need a transmitting license (and so are technically illegal), and as the iTrips are not powerful enough to go further than a 5-10m radius so it gets your aerial, they are perfectly legal.

I also had thought FM transmitters were illegal, but hey at least that will solve the problem

Who cares, FM transimitters are a poor substitute for a diect connection. I wouldn't even entertain one.

I bought an FM transmitter back from the USA. Works perfectly as long as you take the time to find a couple of wavelengths to use. Is the sound as good as a dedicated CD player? No - but with all the other noise in the car from the road etc. I really can't tell the difference in normal use. Also the cigarette lighter is ideally placed for the transmitter with the ipod hidden in the central box.

Good to hear it works so well for you and i agree about the road noise etc but it's not for me

Any news about this adaptor?

I installed a Caliber FM Modulator ( http://www.caliber.nl/product_info.php?products_id=218 ) to get AUX input, this is wired solution, but still sound quality isn't very good. It also made radio reception very lousy...

Nope, but intend to persue it in the new year. Briskoda will be the first to know

Happy new year to all of you.

I just got an answer e-mail from skoda about the possibility to connect external sources to Skoda's Stream audio system through its aux output. The answer is following :

"With reference to your email I can inform you that nowadays is working with an idea to connect external source and dates of MP3. It is going to be ready from the model year 2007, maybe later, if it won´t be succeed this change by radio Stream".

Best regards

Disappointing news I must admit. I think I have to look for alternatives (expensive ones I think) like Solisto . Any of you with other ideas for connecting your MP3 player to Octavia5 Stream?

Interesting but dissapointing news, I might make up an adapter myself. Should only cost a few quid. Better than shelling out money to some else who will give me the same thing in a pretty box. Now I just have to figure it out.

Ok then, anyone any good at PIC programming. I'm not but i'll have to brush up on it to build an adapter kit. As soon as I get a minute i'll try making on up. I know of someone who has already. No promises but i'll do my best and despite the cheeky comments will be happy to help my fellow briskodians.
