Aux input on Stream & Audience HU's - Update

Featured Replies

More feedback on the Aux kit off Ebay

Hi again John - I just heard from the manufacturer re. the Audience headunit - this item has not been tested on the Audience headunit' date=' however, provided the Audience has the same 8 pin mini-Iso connection as the Stream, then it is expected to work as well (the important consideration is the CD changer protocol ("language") that the headunit uses - and since it's also a Skoda OEM headunit, the protocol is very likely to be the same - as indeed are very many of the VW group headunits).[/quote']

Well the Audience uses the same quadlock connector, but it does not have a cd changer cable attached and the function is switched off, should work then.

I think you said before that the autochanger input might not be enabled on the audience though which makes sense as there is no real need to add a changer to the Audience.

Not good news for audience owners unless they can get a firmware upgrade to enable it then I guess. Then again the audience can play mp3s off cd and for most people that's probably enough.

Now I'm confused: The Audience is a front-loading 6-CD player - on a different thread we're told it's made by Visteon (a Ford subsidiary) and here by Panasonic (nothing to do with Ford as far as I'm aware).

Which (if either) is right?

Have ordered one of the adapters off the guy on ebay so will post my findings when it's fitted. Now the next question, will the soon to be redundent cd changer work with my G/f's Firby vRS's Symphony unit?

Bad news, just got mine today and it has the old connector for the Symphony. no use whatsoever. Either he sent the wrong thing or he doesn't know what connector the Stream uses. Begs the question: how exactly was it tried and tested by the manufacturer if the friggin plug doesn't even fit a stream radio. I'm wainting for a response to my email. Don't anyone else buy one in the meantime. I'm sure its a genuine mistake but its really ****ed me off.

I don't think I should trust buying anything with no info on what it is and a kind of more detailed product description, something to make me understand and buy. Nevertheless,I think a friend of yours has a VWPIC working on its Octavia II,right? Did he tell you how long did it take him to make it and how much it cost? If it really plays and there's no significant problems to build it, why not do it? Thought I'm a little confused about what circuits I should use from k9spud and finally what PIC type and assembly code is better... Microchip's site has enouph info on PICs. Any advice?

I'll be asking exactly the same thing. A bit confused too

just checked my unit as the chap on ebay alerted me to the possible 8 or 12 pin quadlock and its not compatiable with mine either and on checking the pin diagram it looks like the multifunction display info shares the same connection as the auto changer so any future adaption would have to allow for this...... Bugger!!!

Not sure about that TBH. The mutifunction display does everything I think through CAN-BUS. Reason I know is that when i put my bluetooth kit in the radio info wouldn't work on the multifunc disply but the autochanger was ok. Took radio out again and pushed quadlock fully home and voila it worked again. Reckon one of the CAN-BUS connections wasn't fully making contact with the radio.

Been talking to this guy on Ebay. Apparently the old stream radio used the same connector as the old symphony etc but the new one does it all through the quadlock. He's looking into it at the moment. Will probably get a refund. Would only modify it myself if he can supply the pinouts and the blue mini iso autochanger connector to fit into the quadlock connector.

I'm just going by what the pin out sticker stated on the unit. It mentions clock, data, cdc etc all on the same block and if you look at the cableing it all merges together rather than a simple seperate lead going to the autochanger, tho obviously that could simply be down to cost cutting and making it part of the cars wiring loom.

clock, data, cdc etc etc are all autochanger connections.

time to bump this back to the 1st page lol

What about this as my german is terrible (Love Rammstein mind' date=' saw them live twice last year!!)

That's just the thing. I've seen it before. Not convinced about the heatshrink over the circuitboard though and there are no cable restraints. It all looks a bit delecate but it should do the job no bother. My big worry is not understanding the German small print and communication with the seller if it goes wrong or doesn't work.

well my German ain't as good as it used to be but this is to allow you to replace your cd changer with an MP3 etc, not to add it as well as the changer. Can't remember if that's what you wanted but what I am looking for is to keep the changer and have the ability to plug in my I river as well. Spoke to Skoda Uk to see if there was an update on the promised accessory and they denied all knowledge!

No surprises there. I've been looking at this in some detail lately and I think i'll survive without the changer. If I can I will devise a little changover circuit to switch between the changer and aux input and will of course share the info but at the moment i'll settle for getting a single aux input to the head unit.

It looks very much like the changer protocol for the stream is the same as that for the older Symphony head units especially given that the original stream HU uses the same autochanger connector as the Symphony.

On that basis, you will probably find that This item would be the best bet. You will however need to change the connector if you have a new model stream. The connector can be purchased for around £10 from your Skoda or VW dealer. I have part numbers and pinouts if you need them.

hmmmm

I gues smine willbe a new stream as the car is a month old. I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that living without MP3 in the car is the best bet. I really don't want to be fiddling around with changing connectors etc. Maybe someone will come up with a ready made solution sometime!

It seems a bit of inconsistancy is happening at skoda customer care as I emailed to complain about the lack of an Aux in connector when the unit is enabled to select one through the menu's and got this reply

Thank you for your email.

I can advise you that the radio does not have an aux input connection for an MP3 player, however, we are launching an accessory to allow connection to this type of unit. Currently, we have no information or prices and expect it to be available shortly. Please keep in touch with your retailer who will be able to offer further information, when the accessory is released. I have enclosed their details for your convenience:

very odd then that their manual states that it has it and that the menus in the unit allow you to turn it on!!

I have used an iTrip (iPod FM transmitter) for some time now in my Octavia (Stream). I bought it from my local KRCS Apple Centre.

True, not as good sound quality as CD ( but certainly good enough for Audio Books, which is what I use it for ) and my Stream doesn't seem to play MP3 anyway, either in dash or in autochanger.

RE. this Line-In adapter that has been referred to...Has anyone got one yet?

No Myself and johnnyc ordered one but the connection socket on the rear of the stereo changed from an eight pin to a 12 pin connector sometime during production and is now incompatiable. The guy stated that the maufacturer was now aware of this and hopefully will be able to supply one in the next few weeks but cannot say for certain. The ability for the unit to enable an Aux input was the reason I emailed a complaint to Skoda regarded the lack of a connector hence the email I received back in reply.

Mervyn Stewart in Belfast don't have a notion. they ordered the connector for me but forgot to order the cables to go with it twice. Really ****ed off now. They are on backorder now. Maybe 10 days. Scum

I finally chose Solisto (www.solisto.de) virtual MP3 player for my Octavia's Stream HU which connects to cd changer's input. The reason was that I couldn't wait for Skoda's solution and that it comes in a small aluminium box, easy to hide behind the HU, with a USB output and complete with manuals and the correct cable for your car. I also bought a 1Gb USB stick in a lower price, as I didn't have one. It's possible to use any USB connection staff, having a max of 6x99 songs. I connected everything and it's OK by now. The only thing missing is find a way to make USB connector steady as I've chosen the solution of having the output on an unused button under climatronic, though I bought a 2,5m cable, thinking of having it under/near the armrest. Too fussy, as there's no unused tap somewhere there and the glove compartment is difficult to pull out. I think it's a nice choice, if you can give the money of course...

Any joy with the AUX input to stream yet Johnny ?
