I know of a guy who made one up. I supplied him with the wiring diagram and he did the PIC programming so i've dropped him a line. No response yet though.

Excuse my ignorance but whats PIC ?

I think its a programmable integrated circuit. That hurt my brain

 I assumed it was just cabling and connectors involved, didn't realise there was more to it than that :)

Some veroboard, resistors, capacitors a chip and as you say connectors and wires. If life was that easy i'd be chairman of ICI by now. Well maybe KFC

VW's version of the Ipod adapter is avaliable from vw dealers, part no: 1k0 051 444

http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/438323/ShowPost.aspx for a thread about it.

should work with the Skoda units, but unless I know 100% it will work with the Audience unit I'll wait.

Cheers, hope it works out. No reason why it shouldn't really but no good for me. Looks like a Denison type but i'm not bothered about IPODS. Too expensive, they make the dash look untidy and you are stuck itunes and DRM. I'll be installing my Mstation with a 80Gb HDD in the boot and a remote display and controller integrated in some way to the dash. I just need an auxillary input to the HU.

I agree Ipods are expensive, dear Johhny, but marketing have given them a boost. You can connect them almost anywhere. There is luck of knowlegde on HUs and the wiring needed, because car companies have taken good care of it, in order to sell later with added products. Anyway, if you find something about PICs and their programming (I don't know how Octavia's II Stream HU recognises a connected CD changer, the commands to use for my HU) or a possible circuit, please let us know. There's some info on www.k9spud.com and other sites about programming PICS and possible circuits built around them, but I'm not sure if it's worth trying (at least in my case). Any knowledge on this subject highly appreciated.

I'll have a further search on the web, as Solisto and other products remain expensive . And I'm ready to give a try making my own interface if I could find correct info for my HU.

k9spud is where i got my info. I'm quite sure i'll be able to tackle it myself at some stage although the contact i had on the PIC programming side of things hasn't responded to my email. Just a glitch though. Now I just need a little time in between work and decorating bedrooms etc in preparation for the baby coming in April. I'll keep you guys posted but feel free to tackle it yourself. www.k9spud.com is a great point of reference and it does work with the Stream HU.

I have an Oct with a Blaupunkt Cd52 cd player and would absolutey love to connect my Creative mp3 player.

Is the PIC/connector the only way to connect the mp3 player on k9spud the only way.

why is the HU not recognising the aux connector connected to an mp3 player instead of a proper cd changer? -just wanted to understand the reasons.

are all aux inputs for cd changers the same ie will not reg an mp3 player

thx

The CD52 has a Dual auxiliary input facility as far as I know. You just need to buy the appropriate cable and connect it up.

thx Johnnyc -

whats the difference between my cd player and the players that will need to modification -- ie hu unit not recog say an mp3 player.

As you said - a cable like the ones posted earlier from www.bluespot.co.uk and I should be able to hook up an mp3 player without a problem ??

edit 10am --just checked back of blaupunkt modena cd52 and it has a long rectangle aux input with 20 pins free -no cd changer

like this --flat on their side (just found out - this is a 36 iso connector !!)

--- -- --

-- -- --

--- -- --

so the bluespot connector won't fit this type of pins setup ??

and the radio is like this

l l l l

l l l l

this is the only aux input available on the back of this stereo- 2in total.1 for radio/1 free

Question - which lead will work ---this one but it says "only suitable for radios equipped to accept two auxiliary inputs. Single aux-input radios should use 1st lead"

Is this applicable for my stereo ??not sure. Do they just mean that there is two on the stereo (which there is) and one is available ??

or this one -- but looks like its not the correct type - not enough pins ..

Really appreciate this folks

thx again

I can see on k9spud that VWPIC works with Stream HU, but is it the same Stream HU found in 2005-2006 Octavia II?

I also found a cd changer emulator at 40 euros at www.conofrei.com. I send them a e-mail asking for information about their product, as no photo or specs on their product.

Does anyone know something more on the above?

The older and newer Stream HU's use the same cd changer and hence the same communications protocol so it should work fine.

An easier way to descibe the pin setup is here.

http://www.packetradio.co.uk/Cars/octavia/radio.htm

I didn't know the top connector 1 consisted of 3 different sections

This is the connector on my blaupunkt for a cd changer.

will this blue aux connecter fit ok so --fitting in to pins 13-20 --http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/auxin.asp

can anyone expand on this section of Bluespots add for this lead.

""These leads are intended for use with better-specified Blaupunkt 'aftermarket' radios, and are not suitable for use with most Blaupunkt navigation systems or factory-fitted radios, including VW Beta / Gamma / Chorus models. They will plug in, but not be recognised by the radio.""

Will it work ??

thx and sorry for the long winded post earlier -not very clear.

Thanks a lot Johhnyc.

I'll have a further look at k9spud. I'll also wait a liitle for an answer from conofrei, as the price is low (depending of cource on what their product does offer).

Anyway, if you start building something that can be playing to my HU, please let me know. I'd like to work on it! I've not a big experience over circuits (I'm a software engineer) but it's been my hobby for some years...

Cheers, once I have a go i'll be wanting to check it thoroughly before connecting it so advice on programming the PIC may be required

Just found This. It looks like what we need albeit at a price but this is the only adapter i've ever found in the UK that is definately compatible with the stream radio although it doesn't mention Audience.

I'll still have a go at the VWPIC as my contact who has built one just sent me an email. I'm chomping at the bit to install my mp3 player so it looks promising and there's less risk of damaging my radio too. Could probably build the VWPIC for about £15 or so but it wouldn't have any guarantees attached.

I reckon it's worth the extra £30 or so don't you?

Look on bluespot for your radio and then accessories as you should be able to buy an AUX in cable with a headphone attachment for a few pounds. That is the best you will find for the Creative labs Mp3 player.

as it does not mention the latest Golf headunits either: RCD300 (stream)' date=' RCD500 (Audience) I would not risk it. Also the cd changer option is turned off on the Skoda Audience and will need to be turned on by either a willing Skoda dealer or someone with a CAN-BUS version of the latest Vag com software (v512.1) (previous versions cannot alter the long coding that needs to be changed to allow the radio to 'see' it).

shows the Stream radio accepted with the VW radio in brackets, so they are the same. Again the Audience radio is not shown for the reason mentioned.

The stream radio is actually listed on the description of the models of radio the adapter is suitable for. You also have to tell them which head unit you have when you order the adapter from what I read.

The RCD300 is similar to the Stream but they are not the same thing. The RCD300 has a contorted Quadlock connection because it runs 10 speakers instead of 8. It's also a lot less functional than the Stream and doesn't have the (albeit useless) aux functions built into the stream or the same extent of CAN-BUS integration.

The front loading 6 disc autochangers are Panasonic models and standard across the current VW/Audi/Skoda range so they use the same protocol and in theory an aux adapter should work with all current VW/Audi/Skoda HU's subject as you say to the autochanger input being enabled on the HU.

This adapter isn't as sophisticated as the denison. Even if there are subtle differences in the way the different HU's and changers for VW, Audi and Skoda etc send and recieve commands from each other, all the adapter is doing is pretending to be a changer. It doesn't have respond to the HU cd controls.

But as you say a degree of caution should be exercised so maybe the VWPIC is the way to go. At least I know it works.

Sent the seller a message about this. I asked if it was compatible with Stream and other HU's

Here's the reply:

Hi John - The adapter you will receive will work fine with the Stream headunit - it has been tested and approved by the manufacturer for that model. It will not fit a VW RCD300 (wrong fittings), and I'm not sure for the Audience headunit - I'll check with the manufacturer.

Sounds good to me and have you seen this guys feedback over the past 6 years?

Nuff said

More feedback on the Aux kit off Ebay

Hi again John - I just heard from the manufacturer re. the Audience headunit - this item has not been tested on the Audience headunit, however, provided the Audience has the same 8 pin mini-Iso connection as the Stream, then it is expected to work as well (the important consideration is the CD changer protocol ("language") that the headunit uses - and since it's also a Skoda OEM headunit, the protocol is very likely to be the same - as indeed are very many of the VW group headunits).
