No GPS reception

Featured Replies

My satnav started showing No GPS reception in the maxi dot on the way home from work tonight. The position seemed to stay just off the coast near Southport!

Apart from the odd lock up, the satnav has been working fine since June 2014 when I bought the car and I usually have it on the nav page whilst driving so no obvious indication of imminent failure.

I suspect the antenna has failed and will be taking it into Simpsons when they call me back with a time.

Has anyone else had this issue?

It was in the news that the GPS satellites had a timing fault in the last few days, which may account for your problem.

Unfortunately, it is still showing no gps reception and has now been looked at by the dealer. They have confirmed the fault and will be rectifying it next Tuesday.

Same thing happened to me over Christmas. Dealer tried replacing the antenna, and that didn't work. They actually fixed it by removing the head unit and "turning it off and on again". I kid you not.

I got the car back today and the dealer claimed it was a software update that resolved the issue. Similar to your experience they tried the antenna, which didn't work and then reloaded software. This may have rebooted the head unit and that alone could have solved it. As we all know, if your PC locks up, the first thing you tend to do is reboot and 9/10 it solves the issue. Perhaps pulling the fuse to the head unit might have the same affect. However, when it does a cold restart, I'm not sure if any inputs are required to progress - a bit like the code you had to enter when repowering an older car radio!

You can perform a cold boot by holding the power button in for about 20 secs, as soon as you see the logo come back on the screen it has rebooted.
