Can ACC be reverted to normal cruise?

Featured Replies

I've tried to like it but I just can't. The ACC is too sluggish to react when traffic clears and slams on the anchors too early when approaching a car at speed. (Except the guy I almost rear ended this evening at a considerable speed when it totally failed to slow down) learnt to drive round it but actually I'd rather just have normal cruise.

It's a shame there isn't a standard option to turn off the adaptive element of it. Can it be coded off by the dealer somehow?

You can change the distance, and in my O3 I can set it to "sport" so it brakes later and accelerates faster.

The ACC cannot detect fully stopped cars, so be aware of that when approaching a queue at a junction or traffic lights.

And yes, the ACC is not for you if you like to keep a "white van" distance to the car in front of you :)

Mine certainly detects stationary vehicles, but only if Traffic Jam Assist is also enabled. The system is not designed to operate unsupervised.

I don't tailgate and certainly don't use the acc on the closest setting, it's far too close for my liking. I'd just like to be able to turn the adaptive element off if possible. Almost everyone else loves it but it's not for me.

Interesting as when mine is on the ‘very close’ (closest) setting anything closer than 100 yards away from the vehicle in front and the car will slow down!

There are settings in VCDS but they are not obvious as to what they mean (not looked too deep into them) but the ACC distance is certainly speed related as well as it will travel closer at say 30 MPH than it would at 70 MPH.

I have to admit that there are times I would like it to run without the radar side operating too, but I have found that if I drop the speed 1 or 2 mph until it will happily sit that bit further away that the radar isn't locked on to a target vehicle ahead and runs fine. It needs to be approx 100 yds away and then just the speed symbol shows with no lttle 'car' symbol showing.

but the ACC distance is certainly speed related as well as it will travel closer at say 30 MPH than it would at 70 MPH.

Definitely time/speed related. I think each line is 1 second at the selected speed as the faster you go the further back it sits. A good system really - perhaps programmed with the "only a fool breaks the 2 second rule" as the Highway Code ads used to state. :-)
