Octavia hatchback tailgate filling with water

Featured Replies

The tailgate on my trusty old Octavia is filling with water, not getting water inside the car, but when you raise the tailgate you get a shower! Can't see where the water is getting in, anyone else had this problem? Thanks people.

Yes, I have the same problem. Not a lot of water but enough to run out from around one of the rubber 'bump stops' on the edge of the tailgate. I also cannot discover how the water enters the tailgate.

Ive had it too,

i believe its from a leak within the rear washer wiper unit..

Not exactly uncommon, ive had the fuse pulled for mine fir ages as it was causing problems with the front wipers, and i just pulled out the bungs in the bottom of the hatch to let it drain away.

havnt had a shower in quite a while since doing it.

If you mean in the base of the hatch door itself, it may be getting in through the outside handle/key area.

There are threads about it on here somewhere. But you may need to take the handle off to apply some sealant before refitting.

I asked the same thing a few months back, water collects below the rear window and on the boot lid, bad design im afraid and a slow opening of the boot or filling the seal below the window with silicon can help. My boot carpets wet but its nothing to do with the rear wiper as I dont have it anymore or the water feed from the front

If in doubt, use uv dye and uv torch (both available on eBay) to try and source the cause of the leak.

Just make sure you purchase the correct dye for the job as there are different types.

Hope this helps.

I have this same issue - for me it seems weather related, so is likely a dodgy seal somewhere. You can test by emptying your washer fluid via the rear wash-wipe - if your boot is full of fluid after this, it's an issue with the rear wash wipe somwhere, either a hose leak or a problem with the rear wiper assembly. If not, you've probably got a dicky seal.
