Poly bush front wishbone?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just had the car serviced today, the usual fuel and oil filters and change of brake fluid. As I have used this local garage for years, I know the boss quite well. We were talking about tyres and when my front ones might need changing and he mentioned poly bushes. He did state there was some cracking in the two rear bushes on the front wishbones, but no real play yet. He suggested when I get the front tyres replaced, replace the rubber bushes with VW poly ones and then a full alignment.

Now my problem is, with a previous Mazda 3 Sport I had some polyflex bushes fitted and it never stopped squeaking over bumps. The bushes went in greased as well! After some spraying in situ with loads of silicon spray, they did calm down a bit but not perfect.  It drove me crazy, so I fitted a pair of aftermarket wishbones with the standard rubber bushes again.

Now my question is, has any member here replaced their front rubber bushes with poly ones and how did you get on with them? I do remember with the Mazda it did tighten up the front, which was why I had them fitted in the first place. I intend keeping the VRS for a number of years, so poly does make economic sense and it might slightly improve the Octavias handling at the same time.

Maybe when it is time to replace the bushes, I should play it safe and just fit aftermarket wishbones!

I've fitted super pro ones and they are fine. You can also fit solid Audi TT rs ones if you do not wish to go after market.

I might look into the Audi ones, thanks. Must ask the mechanic exactly which ones he meant. He did say VW poly bushes, so it can't be aftermarket. Would not have Polyflex again anyway, too darn squeaky.

Cheers wiilydog. They are worth considering when I go to change them.

fit some Febi 33973 bushes.  They are still rubber but non-voided.  Basically the same spec as fitted to an S3.  They'll be a bit more compliant than a poly bush & no squeaks.

They are only about GBP10 each
