Dance radio replacement 12v ignition connection

Featured Replies

Hi

I wanted to replace my standard Dance radio headunit with a standard 1DIN headunit. I needed a extra fascia plate with cable adapter.

I needed to find the connection in the Skoda Fabia socket that only give 12v when the ignition is turned on. Use a multimeter the read out the voltage. But none of the other connectors only gives power when ignition is on.

There is 1 red cable with constant power, a black mass cable.

A brown/orange and brown/green cable. Tested both and they give nothing when ignition is on.

Does anyone know what connector I need to use in the black part of the Skoda Fabia socket?

Thanks a lot.

Dave

I'm not positive but some stereos are on a sort of timed shut off via the ECU, they stay live for about an hour after the ignition is turned off. I believe there is a particular type of fuse a 'J case' fuse that also puts the power through to the component slowly on start up to avoid spikes, when I say slowly I mean over 1second rather than 0.1seconds.

May be worth shutting off the power and checking the red wire after an hour or 2?

Yeah as I found out on Sunday when doing my own stuff, the power is constant and is canbus controlled on/off.

If you are looking for a remote 12v wire. I would suggest doing a fuse tap in the fuse box on the drivers side.

Hi

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure what you mean. So there is no 12v ignition only power connection in the standard radio socket?

No, the only 12v source to the radio is permanently live. The car sends an electronic signal down a control wire to the radio to turn off when you remove the key.

Okay, I tried connecting the remaining connectors brown/orange, and a brown/green with the radio's ignition cable, but radio doesn't power at all.

So what can I do instead?

thanks

Google something called piggyback fuse, you then crimp a 12v wire from the piggyback fuse (that connects to your fuse box) and the other end goes to your stereo. I'm pretty sure there's a walk through on here.

So I find the 12v ACC fuse, i use a piggyback fuse and connect the ignition cable of my radio to it?

Indeed. Have a look around here about dashcams, it's pretty much the same process.
