heavy clutch peddle

Featured Replies

My clutch peddle has become heavy, even though the biting point is close to the floor , could this be the master cylinder that is causing it, clutch not slipping , is the master cylinder set up the same as on the octavia attachedto the peddle on the bulkhead

could this be the master cylinder that is causing it,

Could possibly be master or slave cylinder - Does yours have an external slave cylinder on top of the gearbox?  5 or 6 speed gearbox?

If it is an external slave cylinder - start by replacing this

Its the 1.9 tdi 105 bhp ,5 speed, had a single clutch system fitted at 70 K , now on 132 K , peddle creaks for the last few inches when depressed

Sounds like the master/slave cylinder, especially the low bite. I had this happen the week before last, clutch pedal went from biting suddenly as it was released as there was an obvious notch in the return stroke of the pedal to the clutch not working at all over the course of a 100 km drive. The master cylinder was replaced last week with no change in symptoms, so it's the slave in my case - there doesn't seem to be a good way of checking without replacing the part if nothing is visibly leaking :(.

Just been down to see my mechanic, he recons the clutch cover fins have had it, so a new single clutch needed

Udate, clutch releace bearing had come loose, and smashed the fins of the clutch plate, £460 for a new clutch fitted
