Don't honestly know........I have 7.5x17 alloys when you fit 205 or 215/40/17 the side wall of the tyres seem to be slanted inwards The 235/35/17 have the same rolling radius but I think will fit the rim better

Nope. I think they wouldn't be good on a 7.0J alloy. I have a pair of 8.0J alloys on Ebay at the moment - 235/35 R17s would be good as I remember how it looked with 205/40s.... scary! Problem then with wheels that wide is unless they stick out from the arches quite a lot you've issues with rubbing the front struts, etc.

I think the perfect setup would be a 7.5J wide alloy with 215/40s. Its what I'd like anyway. :) (I'd give 225/40s a shot as well)

I was wondering whether you'd get tyre rub on the uprights. I think there's rub on the arch liners if you use 225/45/17...i.e from an Octy. What you the profile by for a 225 width?

Acording to "The Tyre Bible" web site, 205/40/17 the circumfrence is 1871.76 mm, the 235/35/17 is 1873.33 mm. I don't think the will be all that much wider as the sidewall of the tyre will be vertical only thing is the weight if the car may "bulge" them out.......I'll see if i can find out how wide they will be?

Well, my head tells me the tread in contact with the road would be around 10%-12% more, and profile of 40% of 205 and 35% of 235 isn't that much, so would look the same.

On a 7.0J alloy, 205s don't seem to have the stretched look at all (IMO) so I think 235s would be silly on anything smaller than a 7.5J wheel. Also, if the tyre is too fat for the rim you could end up with it bulging outwards, which I don't like the sound of very much.

Jason......................My rims are 7.5x17 so a 235/35/17 might be ok!!!!!!!!!

Won't they be 30mm wider though, irresepective of how they fit the wheel? I thought the width referred to the tyre's "footprint"?

Aye...the rolling circumference may be the same so you won't get arch rub but the width may give rub on the strut.

as stated... they will fit but require arch mods

the JBS nos furby had 235/35s on 18s... and needed arch mods

how about 225/40? its actually a closer match than the 215s that people have been using..

if you have spacers on the back wheels they should go on. but itll tramline like a bugger

225/35/R17 will fit better on to those size rims. Fabia156 from Dubai with the red Fabia and black 17s has those tyres. No slanting sides, a perfect fit.

Just putting 215/40/R17 on 17" octy alloys on my Furby vRS, guy at garage thinks they will rub when on full lock, is this the case or are they ok, the car is not lowered... help my missus is at the garage now...

No, they won't rub on full lock. 225 tyres don't rub at full lock, and I had those :)

235 vs 240 means that your car will sit lower have a harsher ride and the spoeedo will be out.

you can get 235 40 17
