Strange Issue - ESP, Airbag, others

Hi Chaps,

I'm looking after my dads car, and i just started driving it again after being sat for a month, car started up fine, drove half mile to the petrol station, filled up diesel, started driving again, and within a quarter mile and just turn a corner, the car made a beeping noise, esp light came on, with power steering warning so i drove home just up the road, switch engine off, went inside the house had my dinner, came back to the car couple hour later. Started car up fine, no beeps, no warning lights, i thought brill, reversed out on the road and drove half way up the road, esp and airbag light on and every now again power steering warning came on with beep and stereo unit say no optical parking available (it does work when put in reverse), so i continued driving for about 3 miles hoping it will clear itself, parked up at a retail car park, switched engine off, waited about 10 mins, started up again, esp light, engine management light then airbag light, and power steering beep & warning every so often, continue driving and hoping it will clear, but it doesn't get better next the central locking unlocked then locked, and repeat a couple of times. So drove back home i sort it out tomorrow argh.

The car drives fines, just all the electronic warning issues, no limp mode whats so ever. It seems like the canbus system has gone faulty as it can't communicate properly.

Was thinking one thing i could try tomorrow is disconnect the negative lead of the battery for an hour then reconnect so the car reset itself, that's the only solution i have at the moment.

What do you guys think problem could be.? Any help and advice is appreciated.

Car is a 2010 Octavia DSG 2.0TDI 140

Done the battery disconnect for an hour method. Started car up, started fine, but engine management and airbag light on, test drove for 10 miles, no new issues. Got back home plugged in the code reader - error code U0155 google the code 'No Communication with Instrument Cluster'. So i erase the fault code, engine management light gone off, airbag light still on. Test drove the car again another 10 miles, during the drive, esp light came back on and then power steering light on & off with beep then the doors unlock and lock, what i have notice every time the power steering warnings comes on and beep, the doors unlock then lock again same time as the pas warning.

I have also notice the power steering warning and door unlock/lock when i turn left or bend to the left. Which makes sense now, as the issue only started when i turned left then all these issues came.

What can it be guys?

Update... the battery has been left on charge for 8 hours. Installed it back into the car, started up, the airbag & pas lit up, then after about 10 secs the pas light went off, only the airbag light remain on, took the car on a 20 mile run lasting 30 mins, no new errors. This was last night.
This afternoon i took the car out on a 8 mile trip, airbag light remained on and nothing else. on the return journey 5 miles in, the esp light come back on then the pas light intermittent, doors unlock and lock intermittent.
Do you think it needs a new battery?

Been reading on here even if the airbag fault has been fixed, the light would still be on and it would need clearing via VCD.

The drive to work this morning 20 miles had only airbag light on, then the last mile the esp light had to come on along with a beep..

So lets say is normal the airbag light is still on until cleared, why did the esp light come on for the last mile. Electrical/battery fault maybe?

The battery seems to be charging and running Ok. There is an indicator on the battery to show the status, i shall upload a pic later.

Any help or advice appreciated

Airbag light won't clear itself, vcds required

Get the car scanned with VCDS and see what faults show

If it was low voltage it shouldn't happen with the engine running, check to see what the alternator is putting out.

When I had random problems with my maxidot and instrument cluster lights I ended up needing a new cluster.

Although I believe a low battery can also induce random issues with warning lights. If it's a 2010 on original battery I'd be tempted to replace it. At nearly 6 years old it's probably due.

Does the indicator look clear to you? You can see black but its further down. There is also some condensation in the viewer

The problem only happens when i turn left. Before it was just tc, airbag, pas coming on. After resetting the code, went for a drive, it seems fine.

About to leave simons, i had new errors appear on igntion, simon reset the codes again. No more new fault codes. On my way home, the errors came back including new ones. argghh its gone crazy, dashboard light on and off, rev drop and back on. abs error, bend lighting error.

Update. I took it to an auto-electrician he believes it's either canbus gateway or software issue. He believe it's more software issue side by the unusual things the car is doing, so I had it in at the stealers for diagnostic and software update. They started out after diagnostic scratching their head, then thought it was the fuse box, then checked the wirings, and finally canbus gateway.

The cost for the repair with diagnostic £430.

My question is, is it common for the canbus gateway to fail. And is the price quoted reasonable, as part is 200 something pound.

Given that there are very few (if any) threads on here about failed CAN Gateway in ANY Skoda model, I doubt that this is the direct cause of the problem.

IF the gateway has failed, what caused it?

I suspect that there is a wiring fault somewhere causing intermittent power supply to one (or more) controllers. Probably the CAN Gateway; but I'm no auto electrician so please don't ask me how to check this.

You seem to have eliminated battery as a source of the problem, but it could be wiring (or connector / wire interface - I've know early Fabias to have issues in this respect).

Yep, the dealers fixed it, and they not charged for their trial and elimination. First they checked the wiring, all ok, then replaced can gateway, not that so removed, next ignition control, wasn't that so removed, reconnected wiring, this seem to have fixed it.

So the cause is lose wiring to the can which seems common on here.
