Oil consumption

Featured Replies

Morning all.

So i got my skoda back from my mechanic for a service yesterday and he commented that he only got between 1.5 to 2 ltr of oil out of it. This would indicate it had used about 2 ltrs in 6000 miles.  ( i service every 6000 miles) .

I received no low oil indicator. I'll be honest ive gotten a bit relaxed about checking the oil level myself since i got the skoda for some reason. I used to do it religiously on previous cars.

My question , is this normal or higher than normal oil consumption.  106k miles running 505 semisentethic oil, f

Thanks

Its quite common for these engines to use oil but doesn't seem consistent between different cars.  2 lites in 6k miles does seem high though.  Keep an eye on it ..  any visible leaking?

No visible leaking, nothing on ground, undertray or around the engine, im going to keep an eye on it this service interval and record myself what im putting into it.

I suppose i should have mentioned its a 1.9 TDI PD 105 bhp.   :nerd:

I had the same a few services ago. Turned out the old bolt with the one-use washer had been re-used and it was leaking, I couldn't see any signs till I took the undertray off when I serviced it and saw an oily puddle. Just checked mine after 8,000 miles and its went from just below max to the very top "ridge" of the textured part. So maybe 0.5-1L used?

I have put about a litre in mine in 6 years 60 k miles I didn't think it was common for the the diesels to use a great deal of oil unlike some of the petrol engined models.

Question I would want answering is whether the oil was properly drained by removing the sump plug, or just vaccuumed out through the dipstick tube.

Just the same thing I wanted to ask :)

If it's done by the hole under the car then everything is clear. Otherwise - who knows...
