2010 Octy vRS 2.0TDI CR - Lump Cold Idle

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just noticed this on the above car, when I turn it on first thing in the morning the idle seems a bit rough.

The rev counter holds steady, but I can feel it in my seat, almost like a misfire but not as servere.

Car is vag-com clear and no issues when warm.

Any ideas?

In wintertime it's always the same for me if it's cold outside. Everthing depends from your location, weather temperature etc. In winter usually revs are ~1k rpm at first and after a certain warm up they are back  to 750 rpm.

Have you observed the same in summertime? Has it been all the time you own the car or you have bought it recentlY? How cold is out there right now (no idea where are you from - maybe Northern Norway)?

I have similar in my 2011 1.6Tdi.... so it seems quite common in Skoda Octavias!?

I've not owned the car long enough to see a summertime yet, only bought it a week ago. I've North of Aberdeen so it's been around 0C when it happens. I bought it South of Birmingham and it was double figures there.

Just noticed it first thing in the morning it's a bit lumpy, once it's warmed up, smooth as silk.

Reassuring to hear it isn't just me. Maybe they just prefer warmer climates :)

I don't see any reason why any other diesel cars would act differently.

My 2009 VRS 170 is the same a bit lumpy, soon as warmed up its fine

Yeah mine is the same a lot noisier too, rattles from left hand side of engine but dissappears when warm. Dealer and local garage say it's normal

Same with mine Swany, mine has a rattle but soon disappears when warm.

Reckon that's your answer right there mate. Nout to worry about and enjoy your car :)

They sound like a bag of spanners from a cold start in the winter. A guy told me the other day that they are quieter if you put decent fuel in, but I've never tried that.

Reassuring to hear, thanks fellow derv owners! I've had several PD engines in the past and this is my first CR engine so just thought I'd query it :)

Yesterday I filled it up with Shell V-Power Diesel and also added in some Millers Diesel Power Ecomax so I'll see if that makes a difference.

Did it make a difference? Mine has a slight tappety sound for 5 secs.after that it's fine.Im having a carbon engine clean done soon.

Have you replaced fuel filter?

Too early to say mate, barely used 1/4 of a tank since I filled up. Was still doing it this morning at -0.5c

Fuel filter was replace a few thousand miles ago by the previous owner. I'll probably do it again pre-remap.
