Octy mk1 rear speakers

Featured Replies

Ok, having done the fronts, its now time for the rears only it doesn't have any and doesn't look like it ever has 'cos there's no wiring... How tricky is it to pull out all the trim and run the wires to the boot?

It's quite a fiddly job. I got my dealer to do mine. He said he allowed 1 hour for the job and it took 4. A lot of trim and carpet etc has to come out. I spoke to the fitter who did the work and he said he didn't want to do another one. One thing DON'T use the Skoda bits - its expensive and the quality isn't great. IIRC the wiring is £25 a side and the speakers £20.

yes but you know your stuff, I'm an idiot;)

It doesn't take that long.

It only took me about half an hour to remove the trim down one side of a furby and sling in a couple of cables front to back , and I've done the job in my octy a couple of times in that sort of time as well.

ok then you've convinced me, will have a look in the morning. have you got any pointers?

e.g. approx cable length?

Cable length is "more than you might expect".

A quick guide is remove the glovebox on the passenger side so you can run cables across to the edge of the car

Remove the rubber seal from around the doors (just the bottom half will do)

The plastic panel at the edge of the passenger footwell needs unclipping (think there may be a couple of screws as well)

The plastic trim panels above the carpet and below the doors are just clipped in and will come away with a firm hand. The only difficult bit is the trim section down the B pillar but you only need to unclip that at the bottom and don't need to remove it entirely , just enough to feed cables behind it.

That should give you enough room to feed some wires all the way along to the boot which you can then run up to the speakers (go under the carpet at the edge of the boot if you want to be tidy) , but before you do this have a really good look round in the boot in case there are cables there tucked out of sight

cheers zoidberg. Am pretty sure there aren't any cables already 'cos only fronts go into the factory wire plug/block thingy behind the head unit but I'll defo check.:) Am gonna get my cable from richer sounds unless anyone has a better suggestion

Agree to the above posts - it shouldnt take four hours!

When myself and a friend did my ICE install in my Octy Mk1 a few months back we literally stripped a large portion of the interior to run the power, signal and rca cables. Just for reference I removed all the standard Skoda audio cabling and replaced it with this stuff:

I had a real laying around at home from a project, thats the main reason I used it tbh but by my reckoning it made a hell of a difference with the aftermarket audio gear in place.

Thanks Zoidberg those pointers were really helpful. took me 1 1/2 hours with a cup of tea and a fag... Just need to figure out how to plug the wire into the HU. I was gonna use those snaplock things but the 2 wires are very different in thickness. Any ideas? ( I don't really want cut the wires goning from the back of the HU to the ISO connector)
