Anyone need a single Proteus alloy?

Featured Replies

Not sure where this should go, but there's currently a listing on eBay for a single Proteus alloy, as fitted to the Scout. Looks to have a few scuffs, but no dreaded delamination. Might be ideal as a spare; does anyone know if it would fit in the boot space as the stock is a 16" steelie?

It's located in Gloucestershire; very nice seller - I know as I bought a boot liner and luggage nets from them today!

Thanks for flagging it up. Should fit in boot as has lower profile tyre than 16" rim. A full size neptune fits so would expect a proteus to go in too.

Thanks for the info. I was toying with getting it for that reason, but thought I'd put it out there in case I decide against it.

Have done this......it *almost* fits properly. because the overall diameter is bigger, it sits on the bottom curve of the spare-wheel well, not directly on the floor. This leaves the wheel sitting about 3/4 inch above the load floor. Not a huge problem, and certainly not noticable if you have the false floor installed. The tools still fit ok though. The Scout doesn't have whizzy low-profile tyres, as the tyres are usually "XL" for stronger sidewalls for the offroad capabilities. For a 17" wheel and tyre to have a smaller diameter than a 16", you would be looking at a very low profile tyre. IIRC the standard space=saver spare for a Scout is 16" (same spec as a 'normal' wheel on an Elegance)
