That old chesnut.... front anti roll bar bushings

Featured Replies

Dad's 2000 Fabia SDI (so one of the first ones) and my 2003 Ibiza TDI both have the same problem.

On the front antirollbar, there's two plastic "top hats" that the rubber bush goes onto. On both cars these top hats are in bits. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm looking at pattern arb's and in the pictures, they look to have a peice of cast in place of the plastic bush, but I can't be sure.

Did the later cars have a revision or anything to solve this problem?

Yes, a stupid error by Skoda, Ford tried that trick with very early Sierras, same problem.

Later ARBs had steel welded stops and so different sizes of mounting bushes, my wife's 2002 Polo one only lasted about 5 years, a bit annoying!

There is the possibility of fitting a couple of split collars clamps to limit the movement and then buying bushes that were meant for the improved ARBs, ie removing and binning all the plastic top hats!  If fitting the split collars, the ARB stays in place, if replacing the ARB there is quite a bit more work to get it out and the new one in.

Thanks for that. Might just put a new bar on. I've bodged an 18mm on the outside where the top hat had disappeared and it seems right for now, but I'm not planning it as a long term answer.

Any experience of the pattern ones anyone?
