rare brake light remian ON

Featured Replies

Hi

I just experienced today that my octavia 1 2003  diesel has brake light ALWAY ON even after i switch off the ignition and took the key out.

When i pulled the brake pedal forcefully to dead position the light went off but sooner turned on again...

what could be the prob and how to fix it ?

For now I have remove the fuse (F13 10 v) just to make sure I can start the car tommorow morning otherwise the battery would drain.. is it the correct/OK way ?

please help thank !

Bit of an odd one :wonder: is it all 3 lights? Or just the third brake light etc

If it's all 3 brake lights on then you have a failed brake light switch. £10ish from main dealer

Check to make sure the switch is seated in its bracket if the lights are going off when you pull up the pedal. If this makes no difference then you need a switch.

However if the lights do go off when you pull up the pedal still, you could put something on the end of the plunger to push it home that extra bit until you get a new switch.

Brake lights switch is stuck

If it is the switch, make sure you read up on how to install them properly if its the self adjusting type. You need to have the pedal in the resting position when you lock it in place.
