Removing the left side trim in estate boot

I've acquired a small dent below the window on the left side of my estate. It's roughly level with the plastic trim panel that the cover slides along so I want to remove that and see how much can be massaged out from the inside before paying for a professional.

 

Has anyone tried removing the plastic panel on their car, and if so, how easy was it to get at?
