Did you sell the 1.8T?  :D

The engine yeah. Everyone's doing them these days though ;)

I like the colour, looks pretty clean under back too :)

Some more fun, frolics and frustration at the unit today.

First up taking the front struts off, driveshaft was seized solid in the right hand hub. Need to do a wheel bearing on this side. But a seized driveshaft doesn't pose an issue when you have the tool for the job.

There are a few issues with this car, but most of them have been caused by work done previously by less than competent monkeys. The amount of stuff installed wrong or broken is shocking tbh. Taken twice as long fixing things and getting things how I like them.

Nice job on a CV boot there

Now looking much better

Console bushes were laughable, installed 180 degrees out and cracked when installed. Also old wishbone bolts reused previously and over tightened so one was a struggle to get out.

New bushes in though

And cleaned up the bolt threads

Handy kit to have

The exhaust flexi had bust and had been bodged very badly so picked up a new flexi and welded it in

Best job that could be done considering how it was. But will be gas tight now at least.

Ribbed belt is in a state

So figured I'd have a look at the cambelt (both on my to do list anyhow)

Lucky escape, guide roller has come apart and lost its outer casing (pretty common). Wasn't making any undue noises and ran fine though so it pays to check these things. New belt kit is ready to go on anyhow so no worries.

To be continued...

Like the driveshaft pusher tool. :)

Gonna do water pump too?

  • Author

Yeah I'll pop a water pump on too.

Got a Continental timing belt kit from ECP, was either that or INA. Looks pretty decent, damn site better than what's on there anyhow.

Thats driveshaft tool is simple but good. Wish i had one. Might make one [emoji38]

Top mounts arrived, Meyle items.

One of the threads had pulled out on the caliper sliders so helicoiled that. Still need to fit the new wheel bearing and build the subframe back up so it can go back on.

Subframe now back on, left hand hub all built back up and the wheel bearing tool has just arrived. I can now swap that and build that side back up.

Cambelt in progress, rather lucky with the roller.

Iirc that's for the flat shallow head bolts, yeah?

Yeah, theyre not the m12 splined like what came off.

  • Author

That's right then. Be very careful with them, easy to slip off.

So how to get a set of seats from an Ibiza Cupra in Coalvile back to base for the saloon?

Remove all the seats (bar the drivers of course) from the Scout, drive to the chaps place and fit them in to drive home.
