My Scout blinks........

Featured Replies

Okie dokie, it's dark, the lights are on, trundling along normally, every now and again (not yet seen any consistancy in the how/when) my Scout "blinks" the HIDs. It's a fraction of a second (hence the phrase "blinks"). No faults are logged in VCDS. The HIDs are factory, as is the auto-light system. It always happens across both lights at the same time, and happens whether in auto-light mode or manual.

The CECM is not the original, as the original was 23 byte, and this one is 30 byte. The original is long since sold. Am toying with the idea of swapping CECMs between the Scout and the Elegance to see if that makes a differrence. (The Elegance is on halogens, so blinking may not be noticable.)

Any ideas people?

Is the issue new?

The reason I ask is that quite a few people complain about the factory xenon's flickering when hitting pot holes or even just driving along a rough road surface.

The complaints are more favoured towards the vRS, presumably due to the larger wheels, lower profile tyres and stiffer suspension.

My 2008 Scout also has the factory xenon's and I've never noticed any interruption in power, apart from when the headlight washers operate and you are plunged into darkness for a split second!

No, this can be doing it on a smooth surface. Have noticed it a few times on braking behind another car at traffic lights etc. If I could make it happen on demand, I'd be happier, as that would help with the fault diagnosis. But I can drive down the same piece of road several times and it will only happen once. I've tried driving along where the road surface is less than optimal, I've tried clipping drain covers on covers ('testing' the cornering ability ;) ), I've bumped up and down curbs, I've made sure all the connectors are in.

And we may differ on the description too......to me flickering would be multiple incidents close together..............I get just one every now and again.

Agreed with the washers. I changed the duration that you have to pull the stalk for, and tend to wash the lights when standing still.
