Weird Rev/Throttle behaviour

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

First post on the forum.   Had my 58 plate Fabia for over a year and am generally very very happy with it (I was even more happy until a certain someone reversed it in to a wall, thank god for the tow-bar, made her stop!)

I've noticed for a while now some strange behaviour in certain conditions, it's a bit hard to describe but ill have a go.

1:Sometimes, when idling, the rev counter will "hunt," i.e. sink down to about 600 and then rise up to 1100, then back down to 600 etc.   It does it with the rhythm of an air raid siren.   Other times, it will idle at 1100 until i give the throttle a twitch and then it settles back down to 900 (which I think is normal).   And of course, some times it is just normal.  Generally it only does it when the engine is warmed up

2:When motorway driving, if I take the engine out of gear completely (to cruise up a slip road for example) the engine continues to rev at, say 3500 and, even though my foot isn't even on the throttle, will even start to rise.   Again, if I give it a twitch on the gas then it drops back down to idle.   It feels like something is "sticking."

Nothing came up at the last service and it doesn't appear to be getting worse.   Should I be worried?   Can it be easily fixed?

For ref it's the 1.2 HTP, 58 plate.

I have a Elegance 1.2 TSI estate and its doing the same thing.  I have had it on vcds and nothing shows.  Its suspected that the accelerator unit is the culprit.
