Ive a problem i have a fantastic 50" panasonic tv smart one with pop up camera which i never use for skype i gather ?, it does catch up tv but only iplayer and itv hub sdef, ive been.looking at these streaming sticks,by all accounts this roku give u more ? Any ideas

Are you looking for all the on demand channels (itv hub, 4od, 5ondemand and iplayer)?

If so look at the nowtv boxes from sky. Cheap as chips and a roku underneath (can't get Netflix though).

If you go for a deal you can get a few months of the sky services thrown in. I have a mate who buys them just for the nowtv passes as it's cheaper getting the boxes on offer than the pass itself.

I've got a couple of Roku sticks and a Chromecast key too. Roku is nice because the remote is works by RF not infra red and it can even mirror cast in Beta form. The other options for Netflix and stuff works sweetly too. I give it 9/10. The Chromecast doesn't have so many channels but is great to use for casting images and music. I'd give it 8/10

Well apparently if you use the plex? App you can virtually get anythi g on the roku? By downloading the plex on a laptop and getting a zip file thingy you can get virtually anything for free ?and stream from laptop to.roku

I've struggled to cast things with DRM on it :(

Drm?

Digital Rights Management.

Yes. So things like Sky Go won't work or some movies I have on my UltraViolet account won't play as the DRM on certain movies disables the casting of them.

Roku is brilliant with a Slingbox though. I use one when away from home and put my Roku stick into the hotels telly. Then you make the slingbox connection with your device (say your phone) and once it's up and running, you hand over the streamed show to the ROKU so you can use your phone/tablet as normal, but you still have full control over your replay device at home via your phone/tablet. ie your phone/tablet is just used as a remote control for your media device at home (SKY box in my case) and I can control all my SKY box features with my phone/tablet but the picture is on the ROKU telly :)

  • 1 month later...

Buy a black now tv box & side load plex app if needed & you have the world at your feet as they are roku 3 boxes just slightly different remote as not so many free channels but you still get all major catch up tv inc sky all for approx £15 bargain.
