Electrics issues, 56 vrs

Featured Replies

Bit of a weird problem hoping yous can help, the heated seats, rear window heaters and heated mirrors only work SOMETIMES.

I can't really pin down why sometimes they are fine and others they just don't work at all, the heated windscreen button is pushed the orange light comes on but then about a minute later it flashes (I assume this means a fault?)

The only possible thing I can think is the problems seemed to arise after I had my seats steam cleaner( maybe the steam messed with the heating element in the seats) .

Recently replaced the battery also with no change.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you have access to VCDS or a fault code scanner? Generally faults are logged and that's the best place to start the diagnostics.

I was just hoping someone may have had those issues I described, obvs if nobody has I'll get it into a garage or hunt down someone with the right kit for the job

When those things aren't working, do the windscreen wipers and cabin fan work?

Does the battery light come on when you switch on the ignition and then go off when the engine is started?

Everything else works perfectly and yes light comes on then goes out.

Have you got a multimeter to measure engine-running voltages at the battery terminals and ideally at the alternator also (if you can get access)?

I can't find it now, but I'm sure I've seen a document somewhere that says those things you mention are the first things to be actively disabled when the onboard supply control unit detects low battery voltage.
