scrath on windscreen advice required

Featured Replies

Hi all, just noticed a scratch on my windscreen must have been done by a stone or grit stuck onto the wiper as it goes in the arc of the drivers side wiper, anyone got any advice on how to get rid of it? its not really bad luckily enough but I can feel it with my finger nail when rubbed accross it + see it when the lights shines right.

Help and advice gratefully received.

Hi

If it is a light sctratch, a little ultra fine cerium oxide optical polishing paste can be used to reduce its visibility and take the edges off it so it does not damage replacement wiper blades. Difficult stuff to source and hard work polishing glass, but I have rescued a sreen with the stuff before.

I sourced mine as a powder from a local telescope mirror kit retailer who sold me a little with a burnishing pad. Use wet and work fast. Also reduces the appearence of wiper area wear.

do u think auto glass could help?

Got to be worth a phone call, but remeber they are more interested in selling you a screen. I have used the cerium oxide on classics where a screen is simply not available. In these circumstances, it is the only option, but read your policy and see if your windscreen cover will pay for a new one.
