What can be enabled via a code and laptop at home?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just took delivery of my vRS last Saturday, so this is all new to me, since my last car was ten years old and technology on cars seems to be somewhere near the rest of the world finally. i.e. fibre optic and software based, took them long enough!

I have just received a "Smart Link" code and the dealer had never ordered one before, so didn't know it required a workshop visit to install it. Next Tuesday then...

I am just wondering what else can be retro-enabled via code?

Pretty sure "Smart Gate" also would just be a code. As would (if you have ACC) be "Headlight Assist" once the stalk has been modified as per the Superb thread on this topic, (makes it spring as opposed to stick on high beam).

I am sure this is common knowledge to the regular members but I have had some trouble piecing together the parts from the posts I have read about the VCDS and associated software and cables. Would someone with a VCDS cable theoretically be able to enter legitimate codes from the dealer or is what they have different to what we get from ROSS-TECH ?

Finally on that point, is there a UK purchase point for the cables?

(must be an FAQ muttering)

Thanks all.

Ok - I've just seen the pinned topic about what is tried and tested with VCDS. So ignore that part.
