I noticed in the nav/radio guide that came with the car that Skoda indicated that they could suppy reconditioned units in the event of unit failure.  I sent an enquiry to my local dealer who indicated this was not an option and that prices for new unit started at £750 + vat + fitting.  Shock horror!

Any suggestions as to how difficult the removal/refitting procedure is if i source one from Ebay or breaker?

Thanks in anticipation.

Joe.

So you have a broken MFD and are replacing it like for like, or for a different unit?  What is wrong with your existing one?

If like-for-like, removal involves just putting 4 "keys" into the corners of the unit to release the security clips - the keys then act as handles to pull the unit out.  Put down a towel or something to stop yourself scratching the top of your gear lever with the bottom of the radio.

There are 4 or 5 connectors on the rear of the unit, with varying latch arrangements.  Some of the cables can be a little short, but you should be able to get it out easily enough.  You might also want to pop the trim off the radio / switchgear surround to prevent it getting scratched if you have to manoever the radio due to short cables.  Refit is the reverse.

If you get the same part number radio it should be plug and play.  Make sure you have the security code for the new radio.

Thanks Jimbof.

I have a serviceable satnav and CD player but radio is u/s.

When I wrote my post I had only had the car for a couple of days and because the radio was not working immediately thought the whole unit would need to be replaced.  The radio has no sound, not even static.  It will search but not settle on and play any station.  I now realise that it must be a problem between the radio and aerial.  There seems to be an abundance of car radio specialists in my area so perhaps that should be my next stop.

Lots of firsts for me in this car.  My first Skoda and am very impressed with the finish and drive quality, My first 'big' engine,  My first automatic gearbox for 25 years.

Still have a few other issues to rectify, namely-driver side headlight unit needs to be replaced.  Have one arriving this week from a breaker.  Sunroof issue also.  Will tilt but not retract.  Parking sensors u/s also.  Not sure they are critical but would like to get them fixed.  From what I read online the sensors seem to be a common problem.

Very grateful for your reply and happy to receive any advice.

Best regards,

Joe.
