Rear brake pads and discs replaced

Featured Replies

Lots of grinding metal to metal from the rear end ensured I got disc and pads kit from local factors. Even he thought it was cheap at £30!

Went to a local garage (Polish guy - they are usually quite good) as I was going to do it myself but time was not on my side and not having the correct tools was a risk. He said he couldn't do it until 15.30 - and it was 11.30 - and it would be £40 labour only. Right then, that was a deal I could not refuse. I took it back at 15.30 and watched them replace the brakes. The grinding was caused by a sticking caliper twisting the pad. They freed this up and lubricated. All went back and was road tested. I had a check of everything underneath and all in good order. Maybe a drop link soon and a wishbone needs doing sometime but not too bad. Nothing else out of place.

I reckon that was excellent. Watching everything closeup meant I knew they were doing it right and was all over in 45 minutes.

Nice, I need to do this, as well as new discs...everything is rusty as hell...what pads did you put in?

some parts are really cheap..... you can get front and rear, discs and pads for less than £90 for the vRS! :o  I just replaced my pollen filter... £3.99 :)

I think I read mintex were OK for rears...I still need a piston reminder tool too.

I can currently find decent quality stuff for ~£73 thats a full set of discs and pads all round

absolute bargain I think!

last time I did either front or rear it was nearly £100 each end!

I got all mine, full pads and disks from GSF £111

I just bought a set of pads for the rear of my 1.9 TDI for £22, he said he'd do discs and pads for £50. I'll have to get the discs at some point as well as it looks like the discs that are on are too small because there's a lip on the old pads.

I have recently changed my rear discs and pads with Mtec c-hook disc n Mtec pads and also put brand new calipers on the back at a total cost of £180 minus labour as did it myself (with a little help from my mechanic)
