Cruise control usage

Featured Replies

I use mine for most motorway trips its excellent:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I had it in my remapped smart and it was a godsend ... the temptation to drive like a tw*t is sometimes hard to resist, so I'll be having it fitted to my combi as soon as funds allow.

Great if you think there are speed cameras or rozzers about but a bit scary when you forget you have it on, then lose concentration and end up slamming on your brakes.

Not a great deal of use in the UK even on motorways except in the middle of the night or Sundays :thumbdwn:

You need to go on some different journies! I've quite often left Manchester on a Friday evening and not cancelled it until I've arrived in Glasgow. OK, I've adjusted it a few times, but it's a godsend for that sort of journey. You arrive much less tired, generally having used less fuel, and also that you've probably been more alert to other potential dangers because you don't have to worry about your speed all the time.

Also, as said already, it's also useful for keeping to urban limits as well as for use on the m/ways.

I use mine almost every day to help obay the speed limits.

Great on Motorways too!

Thanks for all your excellent views guys. Appreciated. :)

I use mine whenever traffic conditions allow. I first had it on an Audi 100CD5E in 1980 then, more recently, a Senator 3.0CDi 24V and I wouldn't be without it now.

Off topic, but I had cruise in my Senator as well. Possibly the best car I ever owned. Certainly one of the most entertaining and gave me many memorable long high speed journeys. I still miss it (has been gone 9 years now).

And as an aside' date=' speed cameras really don't pay for roadworks. [b']Correct![/b]

Whilst it grieves me to see them when the area is simply coned off with nothing happening, they are there to protect the workforce from idiots who think 90mph on a contraflow is "safe" :finger:

I've done alot of work on "highways" & believe me it's frightning, no matter how many time you do it.

So you ain't got it then! Obviously !!!! Otherwise you'd know different !!

All so true

Have you got a split personality Wayne?

Use mine everyday, as others have said. Makes it so much more consistent. I do loads of miles so it is actually hand. I really miss it when I drive cars without it.

The nice feature with the Fabia CC is that you can accelerate past something and it will auto resume to your preset speed when you lift off.

I think that's a feature of most CC systems :P:rofl:

Chris

Can't remember the last time I used mine.

I actually find it more stessfull as you're always having to cancel it when you come up behind people, then resume (as opposed to gently lifting to get to the same speed as the car in front), and I hate it when you're doing 1mph faster than the car in the inside! I know you can accelerate but doesn't that defeat the object?

Not something I'd pay for again, although I might have a different opinion if I ever drove long journeys on deserted motorways.

I definitely would be ordering one with it next time round, makes long journeys alot easier.

I used mine regularly in the UK but I suspect it won't be of much use to me here on the twisty roads.

I know some makes of cars (eg. some of the French ones) have Speed Limiters these days. This sounds more helpful in some ways - you still control how fast you speed up/slow down, but you also stay within your set speed. Doesn't help your right foot though, I guess.

Has anyone ever tried these?

Use it all the time in my Octy vRS. Would not buy a car without it now.
