Cruise control usage

Featured Replies

How often do you use your cruise control and do you think it was a worthwhile option ? (besides the fact that it's inexpensive). Cheers. :)

Hi,

Had mine done a while back, yes I'd say for me it's a great option, but only really use on long journeys, great for that and keeping your speed down when you need to (such as in the new motorway average speed traps on the M1).

It all depends on whether you'd use it or not at the end of the day. With these cars there are some cool bits you can get, some you get more out of than others.

Have you ever had a car with CC in? Remember not much use on the M25 in the rush hour where speeds just keep changing but great on a long journey.

It was fitted as standard on my Elegance Estate, but I rarely use it. Except on the very few occasions when cruising on an almost empty motorway, I prefer to have my foot on the throttle and respond instinctively to the changing conditions. When approaching behind another vehicle I like to let the speed run off gradually rather than have to brake to cancel the CC. If it's optional on my next car I won't pay for it.

I don't use it *that* much, maybe once every other week or so... However, it's absolutely fantastic when I do use it, really helps on long drives. I'd strongly suggest going for it if you have the choice!

Use mine virtually every journey.

In 30's, 40's, 50's whatever it's really useful for maintaining a steady speed. Makes you realise how much other people vary their speed.

My thoughts exactly!!

Set mine on a 50mph dual carriageway to & from work & it's amazing how many people don't pay attention to the speed limit.

In fact, it's the local constab's favourite nicking road (in their silver Octavia vRS's!!).

Motorways - all the time.

A roads / B roads, very rarely

In limited areas a fair bit.

For me the best thing is long journies. I went over on my throttle ankle a while ago and ever since a long journey of 2 hours+ would leave me with a sore ankle from keeping my foot on the pedal. Now it can relax in a normal position and I have no such problems.

I use mine a fair bit as I tend to travel out on site late at night so the roads are quieter.

Useful on the motorway roadworks also, stick it on at the reduced speed limit and just cruise through.

A big thumbs up from me

Not a great deal of use in the UK even on motorways except in the middle of the night or Sundays :thumbdwn:

However, on a French Autoroute (other than the Peripherique) I have cruised for an hour at 130 K/h (ish) without ever having to overide it - very relaxing. Surprising how much tension it requires in the right foot to keep an even speed.

Hi

I use it daily. Useful for those longish areas of 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 mph road with not much going on, allows you to maintain your speed accurately. I generally use it when I can see a period of around a minute or more where I will be doing the same speed. Particularly useful through roadworks with cameras every 300 yards or SPECS average speed areas.

Of course, there is also the obvious, quiet dual carriageways / motorways use as well.

I've not even figured out how to use mine yet....LOL

Every day going to work down the M69, apart from days where I feel silly :D

I use mine every day where the police often hide in someone's front garden with a laser. I'ts invaluable too through all the road works in my area where they all have speed (sorry ,safety cameras) to pay for the road works. It ****es off all the BMW brigade who think the limits don't apply to them to get stuck behind someone keeping to the limit instead of speeding up between cameras then braking hard when they spot one. I paid

Very rarely use mine as I always have to overtake that car in front so I find I'm never doing a constant speed anyway. Maybe on a long trip I'd use it but traffic conditions usually dictate otherwise...

The nice feature with the Fabia CC is that you can accelerate past something and it will auto resume to your preset speed when you lift off.

I use mine a lot more than I thought I would, every day, like others have said very handy for sticking to those 40/50/70 limits where you know there is a danger of safety ha /speed cameras you can concentrate more on the traffic rather than worrying about straying over the posted limit, but still allows me my briskoda type moments when I feel the need.

I use cruise all the time, and love it. Best option there is imo.

Its most useful in quiet 30's, but wherever there is a clear stretch of road it goes on.

Its got some great features, such as when you overtake it drops back to the same speed, you can accelerate with it, and it will resume to the previous speed when you ask it to, great for the A1 and its many roundabouts.

And as an aside, speed cameras really don't pay for roadworks.

Whilst it grieves me to see them when the area is simply coned off with nothing happening, they are there to protect the workforce from idiots who think 90mph on a contraflow is "safe" :finger:

I dont use it cos I aint got it. Not worth the xtra. It should be standard shouldnt it. Then I'd probbly use every now and then

Hi,

Use mine on a daily basis.

It does make driving a lot more relaxing when on the motorway or on long straight A roads.

Well worth the £200.

Regards

I use mine all the time but not durring the winter ;) My merc has Distronic it is great extra too but unfortunately Skoda don't have this extra even for option

I use mine whenever traffic conditions allow. I first had it on an Audi 100CD5E in 1980 then, more recently, a Senator 3.0CDi 24V and I wouldn't be without it now.

Use it a fair bit, depending on conditions of course. If the traffic is busy or gets busy I take it off.

I use mine as much as possible, it does however require a diferent style of driving on a motorway, you have to be more relaxed and not getting bothered about the idiots that speed up to pass you then slow down once in front!

If you read the road in front that little bit further then i rarely have to turn it ff.

My merc has Distronic

In the Rolls I usually use ginandtonic

For a cheap option I would say its well worth it!! Its especially handy motorway driving keeping to a reasonable speed if you've got a habit of letting the speed creep up over time. If you need to speed up, just accelerate, then when you take the foot off the pedal it drops down and sits at the speed you were doing before.

Average speed trap areas - just get to the speed limit, press the button and relax for a bit. Well worth paying between
