The AmD One-Click

Well thought some credit is due.

Firstly HUGE thanks to Will for sorting what looked to be a hopeless GB into 20 people signing up, great result! Cheers

Well I picked it up Saturday morning, and met a few others there (pictures in another thread  lol)

The chap at AmD (Adam I think, didn’t catch his name) despite serving us way past opening hours was a top bloke, really friendly, even when we had all paid and were done with it, he offered as a tour of the workshop, was a proper tour to, showed us everything, including some mad 420BHP Mini Cooper  Top man, cheers

The remap?

Well it’s the first remap I’ve ever had and tbh I was expecting a nice change, how wrong I was.

It has transformed the car, absolutely nuts !! Feels like an engine transplant, the turbo screams! 2nd gear used to be the gear that really put you in your seat, 3rd gear now holds that title, 2nd gear is un usable lol

The power just surges through every gear, really unbelievable, didn’t think it would be so different

Another thing to the remap however is how smooth the car is, if your pootling along the car is so smooth, really is nice.

Over the bloody moon with it, really am

Well, thanks for letting me have a spin Walkie ;)

I was keen to go out in Walkies, and see Lorna as she lived close by.

Well, what can I say, there is just no traction in 1st and 2nd gears. 1st is over in a second, and 2nd just scrambles for grip, you really have to feather the throttle. Coming off fast roundabouts in 3rd gives oodles of predictable understeer, with 4th getting you to 3 figure speeds alarmingly quickly. It really has bumped the power up, more than could be expected! :D

Yet, when driving sensibly, the car seems smoother, less aggressive as you hit 2000rpm. Its just so linear, its lovely. Its also more economical when driving smoothly, but when using the extra power it starts to really drink the juice. 60 REALLY HARD miles returned just 22mpg

Also, the noises! The turbo sings wonderfully, and the engine sounds much more gruff... reminds me of Mikes Jabba'd one when I heard it at Regal.

The switchability is a doddle too, only one button to press, and idiot-proof. Only 2 minutes to change map.

A big thumbs up to AMD, who gave us all an "after hours" tour. I've never seen so many ported heads with big valves etc on one work bench. The 420bhp mini is mental, and a very nice supercharged R32  Oh, and the GT29 turbo was massive!

The waiting room is lush too, massaging chairs are simply amazing!

So all in all, a great experience, and for

Thanks guys, your too kind.

Will

Although I couldn't join in as I have an Octy vrs, I have been watching this thread with great interest - it's been like a cup final with 15 mins to go! Never thought you would get the numbers required and kept checking every day to see how it was progressing.

Well done to willbones and walkie and everyone who encouraged people to sign up. Hope you all enjoy it.

Derek

Went up yesterday to take misspiggy to see Tom :P

AMD coudn't have been more helpful if they tried ...and going round their workshop makes you drool :D

And Walkie, you are going to need new front tyres soon....did they stop spinning at all

Sorry guys but :offtopic:

Getting back to the One-Clicks, has anyone else picked theirs up yet? I just spoke with Ed at AMD, and will be popping down on Wed 21st for mine. However in the meantime I am still keen to hear anyone elses reviews.

Cheers,

VRS_AML

P.S. Top man to Will for organising this one. Great effort mate.

I garantee you will not be disapointed, full stop.

edit: I can't guarantee my spelling though

i've just ordered mine this morning and its all going to be done by post and i cant wait to get it fitted from what you have said walkie. Have you had a chance to notice any difference with the mpg with the new map?

  • Author

MPG, good question forgot to mention that.

When booting it (like most of the weekend) it decreases quite a lot, but then you would expect that anyway!

This morning I took a granny drive to work (felt guilty about the weekend) and the MPG was about the same as it used to be in granny mode, if not better, theirs too many variables to accurately say what though.

So booting it = even bigger decrease in MPG than before

Normal/Granny driving = the same, if not better MPG than before

:)

I hope to go down tomorrow... Just booked the day off work...

Gotta use up my AL somehow ;)

I went down this morning and had a nice drive. Well the difference wasn't that noticeable at first, maybe I was expecting too much! But soon realised the true potential of the car. The power is much more progressive and controlled, it just wants to keep pulling, 3rd and 4th gear are easily my favourites, when exiting a roundabout is the best just put your foot down and whoosh off you go rapidly reaching 90 and beyond in no time at all. On my way to Bicester I was getting 48mpg roughly and on the way back just over 47mpg which included booting it every chance I got when overtaking on the country lanes and so on. So for me economy is great still and I'm constantly smiling while stuck to the back of my chair. I haven't nodded so much in my life, power goes down head goes back, ease off head goes forward again. The guys are a great help there I think it was adam I spoke to and who gave me the demo. He loaded the original then let me put on the modified map all within half hour. It's so easy you can't (with some sense) go wrong.

He also mentioned that they didn't realise how popular it was going to be so they may run out soon. He said they're hoping some people can wait till after xmas as they only ordered 10 and need to wait to get more in. I think he mentioned about 4 or 5 have been collected already.

Whenever you get it you will enjoy it so much I'm getting new tyres tomorrow morning as the originals are a bit crap and a bit worn. However I never got much slipping or spinning. The key is to get into 3rd as soon as you can coz the lower 2 are a bit quick and is where you will get the most wheel spin.

Anyway hope you all enjoy it as much as I have.

Cheers Will

I was on the phone to them at 9am this morning to get mine ordered. So hopefully may get it in the next day or so and should have it all working for next week sometime.
