airtec FMIC kit boost pipe diameter?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Having the issue where my boost pipe, which goes from the bottom of my FMIC up to my turbo, is hitting the drive shaft and rubbing a hole through. Luckily i picked it up just as it reached the beading so its not all the way through yet. When i fitted it I had read about this issue so made sure i clocked the compressor housing enough so the pipe had loads of room however it seems the silicone pipe has been pushed down the alloy pipe (im assuming due to the boost pressure?) so its now rubbing on the shaft. its moved about 3 inches as there's a nice clean spot on the alloy pipe where it used to be!

Now, this was about 3 weeks ago when i had my mot, so I loosened the jubilee clip which came with the kit and pushed the pipe back up and wound the jubilee clip back up as tight as it would go. I just went out and checked it this morning and its moved back down again! i reckon the jubilee clip isnt up to the job so was going to upgrade to a mikalor type which has a stronger clamping mechanism. I was wondering if anyone knew the diameter of the pipes as its a bit of a pain to get to and I don't have my trolley jack at the moment

thanks

Andy

You need to shorten the pipework, or when you slide that silicone pipe onto the alloy one make sure your jubilee clip is far enough back so it's near the 'bead' on the alloy pipe ;)

Most boost pipes will slide along on smooth alloy pipes,it's the bead on the alloy pipe which stops this. :)

Also when you do realign it undo the jubilee clip onto the turbo too, which will allow the pipe to come down on a angle, rather than straight.

okay thanks for that, i did think about cutting part of the alloy pipe off but then thought i would loose that bead too?

i'll move the jubilee clip down nearer the bead like you said and give that a try. ideally want to fix it and run it for a while before ordering a replacement pipe

Yeah don't cut the alloy one,cut the silicone one if you want though.

Pretty sure the pipework will be 51mm ID :)

Cheers :)

Just retrieved my trolley jack and have hopefully fixed the issue. Will check back in 1000 miles or something to see if its still moving or of moving up the jubilee to the bead has fixed it

Cheers for the advice on loosening the turbo end too, did that and the pipe slid forward easily :)

Andy

No probs :)
