Ex Demo deal advice - PCP

Featured Replies

So,

I'm looking at a silver 170 DSG Elegance Yeti Outdoor, 15 plate with a tad over 7k miles on the clock, retailed at £16930.  I requested figures for a PCP based on £3k deposit over 30 months (to take it up to the end of the warranty).

Dealer has come back to me and quoted:-

29 x £198.40 per month

1 x £11790 (balloon payment)

Total if purchased = £17543 (£613 interest)

Car comes with 2 free services and is standard Elegance spec.

This must be the figures based on retail price so I believe there is room for movement, question is by how much?  Those payments are affordable but I can't help looking for a bargain!  Thoughts please.........!

  • PCP deals on used cars are never that good - what's the APR? You could be in a new 150 TDI with discount and 0% interest. Used cars and PCPs tend not to be the best of deals. Sent from my iPad usin

  • You're after one of these, with some detail in it!

  • Any dealer preparing a PCP quotation should supply a full page printout, giving all the information. It's usually in PDF format, especially when dealing with a Skoda dealer over email.   Discount -

How did you get it at that price mine was £16500 £3000 dep  42 months @ £300

Can you post up the full deal. Something doesn't quite work out for me here, based on a £16930 retail and £3k down.

That leaves £13,930 to finance and then the final balloon payment is £11,790? So the amount to finance over 30 months is £2140.....

Looking at it that way it doesn't make sense!  I posted the email sent from the dealer - I've sent another asking if figures are correct!

In terms of the question, what kind of % discount should I aim for on used?

Discount - I'd start at £1k off forecourt price and see how you go. Perhaps with a view to arriving at a £500 discount after negotiation.

Like others have said figures do not add up, ballon payment seems high, for comparison you could ask dealer for a quote against a new one, where you should be able to get 10% of and 0%.

Not sure I'd expect 10% off new, in addition to 0% PCP. Reduction in earnings from finance interest tends to mean the retail price discount is smaller.

Swings and roundabouts. I'd realistically aim for 5% off list, in addition to the current PCP deal.

Agree with Falmouthboy

Don't assume you can't afford new.

I've seen second hand being sold on the same lot for the same as heavily discounted new (the sales managers of them are in competition)......keep looking for the 'true' bargain.

Spot on, thanks, will investigate some more............the above discount you quoted is around the mark I'd considered, thanks!

I'd have gone new on a PCH in a flash but they don't do the 170 model any more - the 150 engine looks comparatively slow at 11s to 60!

Wow!

Expensive performance choice IMO.

Huh? The 150ps engine in the Yeti gets it to 62 in 9.1 seconds (9.2 with DSG)

Beats me why so many judge a car on something as irrelevant as 0 > 60

If you're in the city or town you can't move and

In the country, who cares.

It is a downgrade really, as the CR170 replacement is the CR184 unit. But looks like we'll need to wait until Yeti Mk2 for something like that.

But I'd still go and test a CR150

Correct. I think Skoda quoted 8.4 seconds for the 170 tdi.

I've owned both and the difference in day to day driving is not noticeable.

The 170 had a bit more Oomph above 3500rpm,but I rarely use those rpm's.

The 150  also uses slightly less diesel, around 2/3 mpg better.

It's also Euro 6 compliant, whereas the 170 is the slightly dodgy VW Euro 5.

The only slight downside is topping up the Adblue tank every 7000 miles or so.

We'll blow me down! All the AT adds I viewed showed the 11.0 seconds to 60, I knew I could rely on our forum to stand me corrected! I'll look into the 150 in that case, a much cheaper option on PCH, thank you!

If you're considering new, check out the new car brokers - e.g. new-car-discount and coast2coast.

A number of us have bought new Superbs via this route, prices are excellent (on the Superb 3, typically around 20% off list).

Dealers (even via carwow) couldn't get anywhere near.

Thanks. I've been undecided whether to buy or lease, the debate goes on! I feel leading might be my best option at present and looking at current deals of £2k down and £197 pcm this appeals. I'll have a look at the online brokers too, always worth a check. I assume you're talking 0% on a PCP rather than cash purchase?

That's exactly what I'd expect (and got).

When I bought my new 2014 Yeti I looked at several broker sites. 10% to 14% was quoted, but this was only for a cash purchase. 5% to 6% was about the maximum you could get if making the most of the 0% interest and pcp deals on offer. After a few phone calls to dealers within a 30 mile radius this is what I ended up with.

Colin

No mention of annual mileage. When I got my Yeti the PCP specified 6000 a year - completely ridiculous for most people's needs I suspect although it's fine for me so I didn't labour the point (I've done about 7.5K miles in 17months). Could be more important to others.

PCP mileage is really only a factor if you are likely to hand the car back at the end of the term, rather than trade in or settle.

A quick look at coast2coast website shows a discount of around 21% on a CR150 SE-L.

You have to buy on PCP, but after a month or two you can settle the finance in full, and the penalty was trivial (was somewhere in the region of £200-300 IIRC when we bought our Superb).

They've been very helpful in our dealings, and others have had similarly good experiences from new car discount.

No harm in giving them a call and asking how it all works :)
