Bit strange?! Is it hill assist or something?

Got a close up of the symbol? It's not in the user manual that's available as a PDF online, or any of these symbols here http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warning-lights either way it's something you need to get sorted as soon as as it's a amber warning and flashing which means its something that needs to be fixed as it could cause damage to your car

It is in the user manual. It says it's the automatic transmission warning light. It is like the green light that reminds you to put on the brake. This is for the handbrake. It is a little car going uphill.

Ah I was close with the hold assist! Figured it had to do with it being an auto as I've never seen it before

I did a quick bit of research going through the manual and pulled up this relating to the issue:

As far as I can tell there isn’t a way to turn it off. Your dealer should be able to tell you more about the light and what exactly it means.
