Insuring new Skoda - Number Plate not recognised

Featured Replies

My Skoda is being delivered today and has been marked for registration as of today, however the reg number is not being recognized by Online Insurance although it is recognised by DVLA checking service.

I know I can/should be able to get the free Skoda insurance for a week.

How long does it normally take for the online insurance ( this is a well known insurance broker) systems to update.

My last car took just over a week. That was fun and games!

I had to phone the insurance company, the car had to be loaded manually and the reg manually to.

They said you may get an automatic letter saying the registration can't be found (which I did).

It took about a week, then it appeared on the ASKMiD database, problem solved :-)

No further action was then required

Ps try doing it on a private plate when according to the insurance database the reg matches a different car to the one it's on now.

Much thanks. Thanks for the tip on the ASKMiD website.

Here is a link to the DVLA checking site for applicable for anyone else in UK

Won't be too impressed if my car gets taken away or I am stopped by the police when I have paid for the insurance.

You may get stopped but won't get it seized as the Police will do a 'live' check. And in any case if it's a brand new car you must have some form of insurance in place to get it on the road to start with.

Just carry your insurance details to make it simpler and quicker to confirm cover

I had a similar problem when trying to register my 6 month old vRS on the Dartford Crossing website, the car was not recognised!  Database updates don't take place as often as they should.

It may well be seized.

It might not have appeared and the database. A policy could have been taken out and cancelled immediately. It does happen.

It's unlikely a seizure under Sec165 would happen. But you can't say it wont

At which point the officer would call the insurer directly at the roadside to confirm whether the vehicle is insured. You wouldn't get your vehicle seized.

At which point yes I usually would. But outside office hours that isn't always easy.

If it appears genuine you'll get a hort1 to produce your documents.

If the circumstances dictate then a seizure is always a possibility.

Maybe asking them will answer this? They should know how long their systems take.

"I know I can/should be able to get the free Skoda insurance for a week."

- is this because it is a new car? Do we all get 1 week free? Or is it just your dealer that offers this?

I have my new reg from the dealer. Not tried sorting the insurance out yet.

One less thing to do on the day if we get 1 week drive away insurance.

Got all the doc's so as long as I carry copies with me, carry ID, and don't be a A***, I can't see them seizing.

As far as I know, the "free" 1 week insurance is the only thing I missed out on by buying through a broker.

I insured my new Scout with it's 16 reg today with my on-line broker (Elephant.co.uk). I had to call them but there was no problem in getting cover arranged for a ar that won't be eligible to be registered technically until next Tuesday.
