Fitting Roof Rails vs. a rack that fits

Featured Replies

Hi there

I have a new to me Fabia Estate 1,4 16V 2006/7

Unfortunately it has no roof rails and I'm looking for some solution to carry surfboards

Suprised to find that all the roof rack suppliers I have contacted don't supply anything for 2001-07 estate without roof rails - they all assume this car has roof rails and offer bars for this :(

I can buy the rails for £115

Does anyone have experience of fitting them?

Or alternatively a roof rack system that might work. One that clamps around the door frame for example

Many thanks in advance

Milo

thanks for the advice ;)

IF you are looking for a temporary measure the £20 ish seatbelt style ones aren't perfect, but can do a good job and pretty secure for what they are worth. A bit noisy though.

I've found a set of roof bars from a Superb / A8. I've been told that if those are too long, can be cut and modified to fit a hatchback Fabia. I'm not so sure though. Has anybody tried this?

later edit: this is how they fit between the roof and the door somehow
