Alloy wheel cleaning & polishing

Featured Replies

I've got the steel rims with winter tyres on the Yeti now, still a few weeks before I consider putting the alloys back, so time for some spit & polish before doing so. Has anyone any suggestions for a good alloy wheel cleaner or any to avoid? Initial cleaning will be with a pressure washer, just need to do the final detailing & a shine up with a good quality product at a reasonable cost.

Thanks, look forward to receiving your suggestions.

Pity your not local, you could of had some AS Smart Wheels (500ml)

I use Bilt-Hamber and Envy Iron Awe as well.

As for LSP I use Carlack or GTech.

You can use your DA to machine polish as its just another painted surface.

Autobrite direct non acid alloy wheel cleaner is good. As is Sonax's wheel cleaner. Spray on and agitate with a detailing brush to work.

Once clean, I've used colindite as a first layer wax followed by poorboys wheel sealant.

That has lasted over the winter so far.

Two tips, firstly make sure the alloys are clean and dry. Secondly take a bit of time, first layer I left to cure for a few hours before the second coat.

Poor Boys Wheel Sealant

Dr Beasleys Wheel Seal - great protection but critically very easy to apply/remove.
