Respect

Respect to Nigel Mansell on top gear last night ...he hasn't lost his touch.........faster than the Stig in the reasonably priced car.....and faster than Damon Hill by 2 seconds ...thats a lifetime in track terms

Indeed it was good to see him in action again! Not bad at all for an old guy!

He hasnt lost his touch. Just his moustache!!

All we want now is for Schuy to have a go and lets see if he can beat Mansell which I doubt :)

Mansell did do fantastic  It appears that Mil has found his 'tache

:D

Is there just the one "reasonably-priced car". Or do they have several? I remember someone (David Soul?) broke one in a previous series, and had a go in another one (which I think he may have broken as well), so I imagined they have a spare car or two on site.

If they have more than one, then they're likely to have variations and some will be faster than others.

Didn't someone take the front wheel off one recently - maybe they swapped it and they currently have a fast one (as demonstrated by Ellen and Nigel)?

Anyone ever keep track of the registration numbers?

The Bane of Mansell's career: why can no-one accept that he is/was genuinely damned quick, and it's not just down to the car he's in??

He even won the 'past masters' race, which was a one-make series (well, hopefully it will become a series) against some worthy opponents.

Mansell is, to my mind, one of the greatest British racers of all time. He never seems to get enough respect, though.

You could see from that video he was genuinely very quick and that car was teetering on the limit. I doubt you could get that car around that track any quicker. And some people took 2 mins !!!

The statistic that seemed really odd to me is that Damon Hill was less than half a second (was it 0.3s?) faster than Ellen Mcarthur - were they really racing identical cars in identical conditions?

Mansell is the stig?? disscuss....

Anyone watch the ice racing on Sky, Prost anialated them, age dosent matter, youve either got it or you havent, its just the younger guys are keener & take more risks.

I remember an article a couple of years ago by a motoring reporter who was being given a demo ride in a road car by stirling moss who I think was in his late 70's at the time. They were hamerimg through a long bend, the guy was hanging on for dear life & Stirling was changing the tape with his spare hand.

I agree mansell was one of our greatest drivers, unfortunately he didnt have the personality to play to the press but who cares, he does what hes best at bloody well & hes a gentleman with it.

i thought they only had the one car but thinking about it i would have thought they would have a couple... its got buckets and a cage since JK went in it but i dont beleive that one car is quicker than the other.

if you watched Ellen and Nigel's laps the line they held were nigh on perfect and they both carried very good speed for the whole lap hence the good times they put in. Ian Wright went round flat out but was untidy to say the least and still got in the top 4.

at the end of the day Mansell is a legend... Ellen was obviously exceptional and learnt everything the Stig told her.

Mansell is not the Stig... i cant remember where i read it and who it was but it wasnt him. He is ex F1 though.

Yes, they have 2 (I think) Clarkson has refered to at least 2 cars in the past.

Since Perry McCarthy moved on I thought there'd been several. Can't see our Nigel having the patience to give driving lessons to the likes of Tara Palmer-Tompkinson somehow. :)

Some folks try and find fault with everything and everybody. Not only IS Mansell one of the best, if not the best British drivers of all time, he is one of the worlds best. The duels with Ayrton Senna were riveting, edge of the seat viewing. When was the last time an F1 race was truly exciting. Mansell is a driving legend, and I have huge respect for him.

As for the number of Suzuki's, there are at least two, as the edited Mansell lap features both of them.

GX52 HFN + GU03 WLC

Look out for them on Autotrader/Ebay in the future with the description 'appeared weekly on top TV motoring show, some slight clutch /brake/gearbox wear'...

You know i can't help feeling that a bit of Nigel's personality went with the tache.

They definitly have at least 2 cars. One is on a "52" plate. The other on an "03".

Why did I look this up in the first place? :o

hats off to the old moustashoued one! ;)
