Front indicator lenses - differences between models?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I today fitted some Xenon headlamps from a 51 plate L&K Octavia in which the loom had already been modified so they were pretty much plug and play and working without issue. My car is a 55 plate Mk1 VRS Estate.

However when i refitted the front indicator lenses they did not line up with the gap in the Wing. I double checked that the headlights were fitted correctly using the 3 main screws (top clips broken on both units however this does not affect the positioning of the unit).

I also checked that both the clips on the indicator lenses were fully slid into the slots on the headlight which they were although very tight. the top bolt also lines up too. However if you look at the photos you can see the gap between the lens unit and the wing.

I refitted the original halogen headlight unit on one side and as expected it lined up fine. I tried loosening of some screws to see if I could get any repositioning on the headlamp unit which was a no go.

This begs me to believe that there might be different types of front indicator lens units for the Mk1 Octy. As far as i know the L&K Octavia was only post facelift?

Can anyone shed any light?

I did a forum search and found this thread which was useful but does not answer my question : http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/132679-2000-octavia-facelift/

Thanks in advance

As far as I'm aware there is no difference between L&K xenon headlight casings and normal halogen headlight casings. I am going to fit a set soon in my Elegance estate so will check but do not foresee any issues. Are your indicators and original headlights oem or pattern parts as that might have some effect on fitment? Hope that helps?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I just emailed the previous owner who is also a member on here as I did wonder if the indicator lenses were pattern parts although they did have a skoda stamp on them.

I had my neighbour (he is an engineer and I am an office worker with princess hands lol) over just to make sure I had not overlooked anything when refitting the headlamps. I also intentionally broke the retaining clips of one of the indicator lenses to allow some movement and positioning for test purposes but even then could not get it to align. I will need to buy new ones due to breaking it and was just looking on eBay and can see some pattern ones, at £15 a pair it might be worth a try but I worry I could have the same issue. Not sure how much OEM ones are.

Thanks

I'm not aware of any dimensional differences between L&K and vRS (oh and Elegance) lights, since they're all post-facelift. There are differences between the H4 and PD reflectors, but they're all inboard of the fog light.

Hmm I am started to think user error here! although that is why I asked my neighbour to sanity check everything.

A couple of more pictures.

I am convinced the headlight is in the correct position, all screws fully tightened and look how flush it sits with the bumper.

Also note how the indicator lens looks pretty flush against the headlight too but still has that gaping gap between the lens and the wing.

That looks like the LH indicator on my 2002 Elegance, well apart from the gaps around the lens - wing.

I wonder; where exactly is the side repeater on the LHF wing?

Silly question but are the indicator units themselves oem? Could that be the issue? I only ask as something about your pic tells me they're somewhat different to the ones you usually see.

I bought a pattern part pair of indicators and they were fine. I know you've probably checked and double checked but the tabs on the indicator have slid in ok haven't they?

This happened to me once and then I realised the clip on the top fastener for the small self tapper was caught and acting like a spring stopping the indicator sliding right in.

This is peculiar though, I didn't think there was any difference personally

I do know that there is a difference in dimensions between the pre- and post- facelift Mk1. Tried installing post-facelift headlights on my old S-plate, and although not detectable at first glance, there is enough of a size difference to have made fitting it impossible.
