Replacing drivers door lock?

Featured Replies

Having replaced the passenger side front and it not being too scary, I'm now tempted to fix the rear passenger and drivers door. I'm wondering though with the drivers door controlling them all is the process more faffy or is it literally unplug one and replug in the other? especially wondering if I picked one up second hand as to whether the central locking would be confused by the change of car? At least a brand new rear passenger isn't too scary but a brand new drivers door lock is £££££!

Make sure you replace it for the exact same model code and try to avoid the cheap eBay units. You may have to take it off just to find out the code before doing the work fully.

How come you're looking at replacing it?

It has micro switch issues so doesn't know it's open and very occasionally it doesn't unlock

I would reiterate. Don't buy new copies. Spent £45 on one plus £75 fitting. Didn't work in terms of central locking and interior lighting. Bought a used job, identical part number for £20. Had to pay fitting again but works a charm. Basically lost £120 on trying a new cheap copy. Having replaced 3 on previous cars with used items I don't know why I went new copy. If you're doing yourself then a used item is so cheap I don't see it being an issue if only lasts 2-3 years. I just can't be dealing with the hassle of the large rivets and fiddling locking rod which is why I pay someone to fit for me!

I've bought ones from eBay and they are fine. Even so picky that as I didn't get the exact right part no. right the first time round (got the letter at the end wrong), so it doesn't work with anti-hijack. Replaced another with the right model and all is fine.

Think I paid 30for it, can send link if you wish, really good customer service too.

Just so you are aware the window holding mech in the rear is different, basically a plastic cylinder which sits inside another, you push the middle one out then the outer one.
