Where to position SatNav in Fabia

Featured Replies

I recently bought a Garmin i3 and have been pleased with it so far. My dilemma is where to attach it in the car. I have so far been using it attached to front and bottom of the driver's side window, near the wing mirror. This works well at the moment, but you have to leave enough cable to open the door and you can't put the window down.

I am now trying to decide where to position it more permanently. It comes with a circular smooth piece of plastic to attach to the dash which the sucker mount then attaches to. This sticks with very permanent adhesive so I want to be sure about where I put it. I would be interested in other people's ideas.

Thanks,

Robert.

I use a TomTom GO and stick it to the windscreen, either in the middle or (when I'm using the Road Angel too) to the right, by the A pillar. IN both cases as low down on the glass as possible.

I wouldnt bother with the silly plastic bit if I were you, assuming that the suction cup on the garmin is as good as on the TomTom mount....

Thanks for that. The reason I been looking at using the plastic thing was so I could attach the unit to the dash so I could reach it from the driving position to add a detour for example. The Garmin is very small so not sure if that would make it further away than a TomTom.

Do you find any problems with reaching the unit with it on the windscreen?

Thanks,

Robert.

I put mine on the vent when I use it in the Fabia.

I mostly use it in work cars, in which case it goes above the centre console attached to the windscreen.

I have mine in the bottom centre of the screen but do get some reflection further up the screen. Pain in the *** 12v socket makes it the only place where the power lead will reach it. If i had a sucker, id sucker every morning, id sucker every evening..... anyway, I digress. Just to the left of the dash pod would me my ideal place.

Thanks for that. My favourite is currently just to the left of the dash pod. I am thinking of adding an extra 12v socket under the dash. Probably somewhere reasonably out of sight but easy to reach. I'll need to start unscrewing plastic to see where it has enough depth... or I might just take the easy option and make up or buy a two way adaptor as the kids will want to be watching their DVDs on the next long journey and it does keep them quiet.

All the best,

Rob.

I've got a 4- way splitter... going to get it hard wired under the dash then feed my road angel and tomtom cables down the back somehow - should keep everything nice and out of sight :)

As for reaching it while driving... I just lean forwards and prod at it with my finger outstretched... seems to do the job :o

I've got a tomtom go mounted on the bottom right of the windscreen. I hard wired in anouther cigarette lighter socket into the fuse box hidden on the right had side of the dash. The wire just pops out between the dash and A-Pillar. Looks neat and tidy with the tomtom in place....I'll try to find some pics

Get a broadit holder for the airvent, excellent holder, although a little pricey

My PDA TomTom usually gets suckered to the centre of windscreen above the centre airvents. I prefer it on the other side of the instrument binnacle above the driver's airvent but that causes cable length issues. Why did Skoda stick the fag lighter down by the handbrake. Grrr!

I did have it wedged in the ashtray when I first got it which worked well with the PDA in landscape mode. Roundabout fun caused it to fall out and go flying across the car however so I got an Arkon Windscreen mount.

i have the i3 in my skoda, i have it on the right handside of my windscreen just above the plastic clip, i use rechareable baterries and it works quite well, i have also mounted onto the dashboard pod, it sits nicely behind the steering wheel and i position it so its in the middle of the rev counter and speedo,
