Complete lights off but radio on

Featured Replies

Is this possible?

...I should add more detail here! I was sitting in the car waiting to pick up daughter from ballet class and listening to the radio, but I noticed the sidelights were on. It seemed that the only way to turn them off was ignition to off, and then the radio cut out.

I havent got my Superb yet, so obviously cannot comment regarding that, but on my 13 year old VW Beetle...just after the ignition is switched off, I just switch the radio/ cassette player back on and I think it stays on around 30-45 mins before automatically switching itself off!! Maybe worth a try?

You should be able to turn on radio while ignition is off. Just press left knob (volume knob) to turn the radio on.

The infotainment should remain on when ignition is switched off.

It will switch off automatically when driver door is opened, after a set period of time, or if the battery falls below a certain voltage.

I'd guess the latter probably applied if you were sat with the ignition on and not running the engine.

As for the lights, in which position was the light switch? If it was Auto and during darkness then your dipped beam lights would have been on all that time, adding further drain to the battery. Switching lights to O with ignition still on will result in the DRLs remaining on.

If you're stationary for a period of time and don't want the engine running then switch ignition off. Your infotainment will remain on, but if it switches off when opening the drivers door (or after about 30 minutes) then just switch it back on with the power button. If it's cold out, use the Rest option if you have it. It will give about an extra 15 minutes of warmth.

P.S. KESSY will switch ignition off after a few seconds if DSG is in Park. Not sure how it works with a manual.

Side lights will go off after a while by themselves. If you want them off straight away just turn the headlight switch from auto to off.

Please explain more.

I have spent several hours in mine (doing VCDS coding) and the ignition has never switched off by itself.

Likewise never had that whilst coding (before I found the option to turn the DRL’s off completely - with VCDS coding)

Yeah Giz. I spend an an hour in the morning sat in the car watching movies. After a while he lights on the dash go off followed later by then drl's.

Never had the Columbus turn off though when watching a film....

Ah right it’s probably the battery management doing it’s thing then ... turning off non essential items when the voltage drops to enable the car to start.

The mere act of switching on the ignition is not sufficient.

After being in Drive or Reverse and selecting Park the Stop/Start immediately cuts the engine (if it hasn't already done so). After about 30 seconds the maxidot displays the message that the ignition is now being switched off.

It won't work if you disabled Stop/Start as the engine would still be running after selecting Park.
