1.4 Tdi oil change due - recommendations for oil?

Featured Replies

Ive just bought a 2010 1.4 Tdi Fabia & intend to give it an oil & filter change, as well as the fuel & air filters

Its on fixed (not longlife) service intervals & doesnt have a dpf (according to the code on the service book) so which grade of oil would be best 5w-30 or 5w-40? & it should be vw 505 approved?

Entered the reg no onto the Euro Car Parts website & it showed various grades so I was a bit confused (& Im just used to servicing my old petrol Golf Gti's!)

Also is it a 32mm socket to remove the oil filter housing?

Cheers for any help

For the money you cant beat Quantum Platinum. £15ish for 5 litres on eBay at the moment.

ah cool thanks. So 5w 40 is ok then? Most of the sites Id searched recommended 3w 30 which was a bit more expensive

5W40 (506.01) is what is recommended for fixed servicing.

For the 1.4 tdi you either need to use;

5w/40 which must be vw 501.01 spec (the '.01 is absolutely crucial - 501 will not do)

Or

5w/30 which is very 507 spec. This is the newer oil which superseded the above.

I run 5w/30 in mine and it has not missed a beat and runs sweet as a nut - done 50k miles in my ownership.

5w/40 may make it run quieter however.

That would be 505.01 (PD oil, 5W40) which was replaced with 506.01.

Ah balls Ive ordered online from Euro Car parts for pickup tomorrow

This is the one I originally ordered (but its 505.0 so wrong) - I didnt know that the .01 was important too

So would it be a choice between this in 5w30:

or this in 5w40

Why not postpone the oil change by a week and save £20 by buying the ebay oil?
