Sunroof rattle

Featured Replies

Had the second service done today with only 2 minor problems ,the first being the white worm in the wheel centres which Skoda only cover for 6 months as its part of the trim, fair enough no good will there then but suggested it could be stone damage before even looking (whot all four at the same time?)but not a major issue, the second problem requiring attention was a rattle with the sun roof which had become quit noticeable of late, service department confirmed the problem and said an ADJUSTMENT was required and adjustments were not covered under warranty but guess what it was my lucky day and there was a service instruction (something to that effect) which allowed them to carry out the work ( with a given time of just under an hours work )which they were prepared to do there and then, brownie point for Skoda ,so after another two hours I became rattle free for now,but I still felt they made it sound like they were doing me a favour rather than forfilling their aftermarket service.but for anybody with the roof rattle hope this info helps.

" Skoda only cover for 6 months as its part of the trim"

Where does it say that?

And the dealer is?

Your dealer is telling you a lot of porkies!!

No surprise there then, perhaps a letter to Skoda to confirm but it would be no cost to the stealer as it would be claimed back under warranty .

I had all 4 centre caps on my Fabia replaced under warranty at its second service (2 years old).  No quibble at all from the dealer.  I would definitely go back and question what your dealer originally said.

.. As Llanigraham says someone is telling porkies. I had a rattle on my Tiguan sunroof as well as it closing jerkily and the subframe had cracked and it was replaced. It happened again and it was replaced again! I was concerned about future warranty claims and the VW dealer confirmed if there were further problems it would be covered up to the end of my VW Extended Warranty! I can't think the SUK Warranty would be any different.

What do some dealers take you for?.

As said - the dealer is being less than helpful. Yes, if a wheel centre was clearly smashed by a stone, it wouldn't be covered. And as for the sunroof!

The 'norm' is often that trim is only covered for 2 years though, depending on warranty. In Europe the manufacturers warranty is often only 2 years, but the 'expectation' in the UK is a 3 year warranty minimum. So, the third year warranty is issued by the importer company (e.g. Skoda UK) which is separate to the parent company. Trim is sometimes not included (not saying this is the case for Skoda's).

The 6 months point is the point under consumer law after which the onus to prove a manufacturing fault transfers from the supplier of the goods to the customer. My guess is that they were using that to claim it was 'wear and tear'.

I wonder if this is the "knife edge" dealer in Bristol?

Not really wear and tear on the centre caps just poor quality manufacturing and are starting the white worm from the outer edge, never had that on any other car before but as I say not major worry just bad customer service and feel some token issue could have been made and the post about the sunroof rattle was info that might help any other owners who may get fobbed off and that Skoda uk are aware of the issue and have a service letter instruction to carry out the repair and thanks for all the info.

Read the review section for some of the comments..................got it in one Llanigraham ..........took it to Skoda Bath last year, std service quotes online are £50 more and make the Bristol branch look professional they should have C&W music playing!

Have to concur - my 23 month old Yeti has been in the dealer for the last 2 days having the sunroof rebuilt for exactly the same rattling reasons.

Completely covered under warranty.

Find yourself a better dealer.

They did stop the rattle by some adjustments and as they stated there WAS a instruction out to do the work under warranty,it was just their attitude that made it sound like they were doing me a favour and not forfilling their part of the deal ie the warranty and just get on and do the work.
