One Click!!

Featured Replies

First of all my thanks to Will for the group buy of the above, phoned AMD and I indeed have my one click ordered....

I have a few questions though, cos I kinda decided to do this after seeing the superb price and haven't considered any of the complications.

Q1) My car is an 05 no mods, about 6500 miles or so, do I need to upgrade anything else in order to prevent anything nasty happenin ?

Q2) I am having a little difficulty quantifying the mod to the insurance company, what do you other guys tell your insurance companies ? I said it was a remap but they wanted it specified in %increase to overall bhp, now do you all base it on 130 bhp and then work out the increase or use the actual real world figure perhaps 140 bhp ? The problem I have is the Insurance company will only allow a max 25% power hike and I am not sure whether I am actually above or below this maximum in real terms ? AMD reckoned it would be ok but I like to play things on the safe side ? I am loathe to change insurance costhey want to charge a £45 admin fee for leaving!!! It only renewed 8 weeks ago!

Q3) I've read a bit about clutch slippage with remaps etc and was wondering if you don't ever give it the full beans at launch in first and only floor it once the clutch pedal is totally disengaged would the power hike still have an adverse effect on the clutch ?

Last question (promise...) Is it going to smoke like a bitch ?:D

Had my remap (duel system) on the car for about 3 months and mine has started to slip pretty bad now, rang round to see how much a unrated clutch will cost Awesome gti going to charge

The One-Click is quite a conservative map, only +30bhp, making it a 23% increase in power.

Also, because its a conservative map, the clutch etc should be fine. I've had no slip yet.

And it should be fine on its own, but I recommend the PD160 and a Green filter to let it breathe easier and cut the smoke.

To make the clutch's life a bit easier, don't floor the accelerator pedal at max. torque RPM in the higher gears (ie. around 2000rpm). You will have to learn to try and drive around the torque a little bit by using the gears.

As for the insurance - just tell them it increases the pulling power a bit for towing (they aren't going to ask whether you do any towing or even if you have a towbar fitted, it's just someone in a call centre who probably has no interest in cars at all).

Basically they aren't going to put the thing on a rolling road if you've just gone up the ar5e of someone at the traffic lights, and if you've done any worse damage than that, it ain't going to be capable of going on a rolling road!

Disclaimer: Please don't tell fibs to your insurance company, I was trying to be a bit humourous(sp?)

The torque curve is pretty smooth with the one click so it may not upset the clutch too much...

No other mods needed but as said green filter and intake may reduce the smoke a bit...

some cars smoke others dont :D

As long as you're reasonable about what you tell the insurer you should be ok.

Some insurers are weird in that they accept 'chipping' but not 'remapping' - even though a remap is just altering the content of the chip (flash memory, that is) rather than swapping over the whole chip. In which case I feel saying it's chipped to those insurers is not a big deal. You can probably get a tuner to actually perform a chip rather than remap if you insisted, so that would make it 100% accurate.

Power increase-wise, if it was 180 bhp up from 130 that would make it 38% roughly, AMD quotes +30 bhp so that's 23% - which is below your insurer's max.

Assuming they (insurer) charge the same, go for the highest figure they allow (near to actual power). If you're out by a few percent it's not a big deal. If you're gonna stick a hybrid turbo, FMIC etc etc on and get a custom remap, you may wanna change insurers to one that specialises though

Thanx for the replies guys!!! great info I feel happy with going on the 30bhp+ basis and therefore won't need to change insurers. I will see how much smoke thecar kicks out and nay do the intake and filter as other people have suggested!

One last question, I thought the port was in the little drawer to the right underneath the steering wheel as I saw in a pic on here but I can't find it in my car!! :o Can anyone throw any light on that, Im sure the AMD device will come with instructions but its bugging me not knowing!! I am also sure I am being pretty dumb here as well  :D

Cheers,

It is where that drawer is. Pull the drawer down but once its open pull it down even further to reveal the port. It is behind the drawer.

Smoke, whats that? I swear my car does not smoke !! And I look in my rear view mirror often.

Any idea how the 1 Click has altered fuel economy? I am referring to motorway driving. I am hoping it'll improve because the missus does 30,000 miles a year.

I have had what I consider to be quite an "agressive" map by Jabba, I have a green filter, cupra air intake and pikey mods 1/2. I have done 25k since the map and the clutch is fine. I did take it easy for the 1st 5k miles around the 2k mark but now it seems ok to boot it from 2,000 onwards (much better feeling of acceleration where all that torque is).

As for economy it doesnt appear any worse until you floor it (when it can go as low as 10mpg :o), but generally during a "brisk" drive home (not mental) I can get between 35-42mpg which is good considering i have the right foot planted to around 3k rpm.

As for the insurance - just tell them it increases the pulling power a bit for towing (they aren't going to ask whether you do any towing or even if you have a towbar fitted' date=' it's just someone in a call centre who probably has no interest in cars at all).

For gods sake dont tell them that. Your not allowed to tow anything with a vrs

my ones had a 180 remap, and there is no smoke with mine, clutch is steadily getting worse tho. im going for the pd160 intake soon and see what it does.
