Opening cap on rear window wiper

Thanks, Mike. I'll have a go in daylight tomorrow and let you know.

I replace my washer jet a few months back and agree with Mike it does seem to require a bit of force to get the cap to lift

I'm trying to follow the instructions here:

http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk2/vehicle_electrics/electrical_system/windscreen_wipe/wash_system/windscreen_washer_system/removing_and_installing_rear_window_spray_nozzle_octavia/

But I can't open the cap! It doesn't feel like it wants to budge.

Anyone got any ideas?

A claw hammer is the perfect shape for leverage. If you are particular about your car, just use single ply cardboard (or similar) underneath.

You will not damage anything so long as you are not stupid with it. ie hitting it when you still can't move it because someone has glued it on, Lol.

Note the picture in your link, as to the direction of leverage / removal of the cap.

Tried again but could only lift it about 5mm and the part below (which houses the jet itself) is moving with it.

Very particular about all my cars so will try using some sort of tool with loads of protection round about (remember the jet sit on the window itself and not on the boot panel).

I had the same situation on my estate and discovered you don't need to use brute force.

The trick is to pull apart the sides of the cap starting at the hinge end. This will release the barbs in the moulding very easily and the cap will spring up. Look inside the cap and you will how it is held in place.

See my thread on the same subject for an estate, posted nearby.

Thanks, pikpilot. Will give that a go next.

I just need to get the jet off to try to put some compressed air through it as it appears to be blocked (water's getting up there but only a dribble is making it out).

pikpilot, can I just check that yours looks like mine in the attached picture?

Yes, exactly the same from outside. You can release the sides one at a time. In your picture, put your finger below the side skirt near the right hand side. Imagine you are trying to get your finger behind whilst pulling the side skirt. At the hinge end it is very easy but as you move your finger more the left (in your photo), keep pulling up and left. Suddenly it will disengage the barb at that location. Repeat on the other side.

The different model years and the hatchback may not have the same cover but they certainly look identical.

That worked, came off really easy.

About to try to unblock the jet with a compressed air can that I got in Poundland earlier. Will report back.

Glad to help.

Forgot to say thanks, so thanks :)

That's it fixed now using the compressed air can that I got for £1 on Poundland.

Step 1: Release the cap like pikpilot explained:

Step 2: With the cap off, test the washer to make sure that it wasn't simply misaligned. If it's still blocked, then check to see if water's coming out with the nozzle removed (it simply pulls off). If the water does come out, then yo uknow it's the nozzle that's blocked (or maybe corroded).

Step 3: Use the compressed air can with the plastic straw aligned with the end of the nozzle (where the water should be coming out). Do it on both nozzles. I sprayed each nozzle for around 20 seconds and it took a few seconds before I felt air coming out the other end. One nozzle was so badly blocked that loads of little dirt particles came flying out and l landed on my hand (should have taken a picture of that):
