dpf light wont go out

Featured Replies

Hi my dpf light has come on in my car tonight and won't go out.

I drove it for 50 minutes did not let the revs drop below 2000 rpm mostly the revs were at 3000rpm at 50mph in 4th gear but still it won't go out. I called skoda assit out the guy checked for fault codes there were none . We then went out in the car for a 4 mile run him driving with the revs sitting at 35000 revs to warm the exhaust temp sensor up enough to do a forced regen. Then when we got back his computer would not lett him do a forced regen as it wasn't at that stage where a fault light had come on. There was nothing else he could do so his advice to me was get it on the motorway and keep driving till the light goes out i, m in scotland i might end up in London tomorrow. On a serious not i, m gonna drive it down to gretna does anyone have any idea what revs i should drive at. I don't do short distance drivingas my daily ccomte is 50 miles any ideas folks? I have had the car for 2 and a half years and never seen the light come on till tonight.

You don't need a fault code to carry out a forced regen. However to help we would need to know soot loading and the readings of the three exhaust temp sensors.

Any work carried out recently?

No work carried out since October. 12 g was mentioned so was 70% the up sensor was high after the run 538 the back sensor was low he tried to warm it up sitting with his foot on the accelerator for about 10 min but it wasn't getting warmer as it's regulated to 2500 revs. best to drive it that's when he asked me to watch it was he drove and tell him the readout it got warmer when he drove it. He thought at first it might be a fault with the sensor but he said it was ok as it got warmer as he drove just not warm enough to do the regen? Then when he tried to do a forced regen it said drive the car kmp 0 he said it wouldn't lett him do it as it's not at the stage it needs one he said its still at the stage just to drive it he also said if the sensor was not working it would throw a fault code but it's still performing in its parametric ? Any ideas

Is it possible that one of the exhaust sensors is faulty ? And if so would this not throw up a fault code?

Not if it's working within its range but it's not reading enough to regen.

Just leaving now to go on a long run any advise on what revs to sit at on the motorway ?

Yeah tried that for 50 minutes last night but it did not clear it no fault codes but dpf light staying on so I've been recommended by skoda assit to take it back on the motorway for a longer drive just thought I was doing something wrong

I've had the as short as 15 and over the hour mark noticed a big difference when I was using a certain retailers diesel

Well just got back safe and sound from Gretna 140 mile round trip the first 50 miles in 4th at 55 mph 22000 rmp got there light still on on the way home got bored ended up booting it home cars got plenty power still running good but lights still on no other lights as yet and not going into limp mode that's it staying on the drive till Monday morning when I will take it into the dealers to be investigated

usually go in to limp after a few runs with light on, If it DOES need a regen and its not a faulty sensor. Forced region usually costs around £180.

I, ve got someone coming out to the house tomorow that will diagnose what the problem is for £50 pounds. If it needs cleaned out that will be another £150 think it's like a terrace clean idea for the dpf. looking on there Web site page a lott of ppl that have had the dpf light and the coil light and are in limp mode that have went to there dealers to be told that the regen would not work and would have to pay £1800 for a new dpf have had him successful clean there dpf. He also carries exhaust pressure sensors in his van as he said these are the most common component failure, s. It's good that he comes to the house as i, m not to keen to drive it to the dealers 30 miles from me fingers crossed he can sort it out.The skoda assit guy said he couldn't do the forced regen as it wasn't at that stage yet ? Just needed a long drive.

Hi all got the car to the dealers today 10 miles from the garage I got the flashing glow plug light and emissions light with the dpf light come on. They are so busy they will try and diagnose whats wrong by Friday. Might take 3 weeks to fix as they are so busy.

I had to wait from 08 30 am till 1 pm for my 48 hr rental car to arive at the dealers. Skoda assit said after Thursday it's up to the dealers to either keep the car on hire for me or get me a courtesy car. Spoke the the service guy who said there would be no courtesy cars available and as my 3 year warrenty rat out they will not be paying for the hire car.

So i could be left without a car for 3 weeks he did say i could maybe do a deal with the hire company and rent my own car for that time. I, m fed up does anyone know how much a new dpf is i never even asked him worst case senario think i read £1700 some where any one any ideas?

you can get the dpf software deleted and they remove the core of the filter so it can't block again. This is around £400 to £500 and may be a little naughty so I am not endorsing such action... Just stating its possibility. I guess you can re-program and fit a replacement dpf when you either sell or the filters drop in price to an acceptable level.

You can get a dpf for about £500 from a motor factors plus fitting still betting on a sensor tho, Although remap and gutting the dpf will give a lot more horsepower but the possibility of a failed mot depending on the tester its only a visual inspection atm......

That's me got the car back the car was needing a forced regen with the diagnostics plugged in while the car was driven.this successfully brought the soot level down in the dpf to turn the dpf light of however it was in desperate need of a long run to reduce the level further. The garage called to ask if it was ok for one of the mechanics to take the car home with him for the night to in my mind give it an Italian tune up to witch I agreed. They checked the soot level in the morning again and it has reduced further. There diagnostics equipment shows all the sensors involved in the regeneration posses working as normal. My total bill came to £135 I will be a lot happier when I see the car go threw a successful regen on its own. Skoda did rent out the 48hr hire car for one more day for me free of charge so I'm thankful for that hopefully that's the end on the problem I. Ll keep you posted.

Result! Glad it wasnt a major fix do you do mainly urban driving?

Consider buying a petrol vehicle .

I maily do a 40 mile round trip to work on 60 mph roads takes me 30 min each way 6 am in the morning 7 pm at night.

I miss the rush hour so I'm not in start stop traffic I do about 14000 miles a year. I had done 100 mile round trip the day before the light came on again not in stop start traffic. I have had the car from 8 months old and 5000 miles on the clock I have had it 2 and a half years and this is the first time I had ever seen the light on.

Tbh with the driving your doing the dpf should have been fine when was it last serviced maybe the air filters dirty causing excessive smoke or something else is causing it. I probably do more urban driving than you and just a long run or two on the weekends and have had no problems with dpf.

It was last serviced in December it had its first mot at the same time. That's it's 3rd serviced all serviced at skoda main dealers. That has been one week now and no problems to report if it does return it's definitely going sooner rather than later. I love the mpg I get from the car hopefully it won't return.

  • 3 weeks later...

THE dpf light has come on again and won't clear. I think there must be an intermitent fault with a sensor as i can't get it to do a regen driving at high revs the light came on 15 , mlies into a 30 mile journey skoda assit will be out soon. The garage checked the sensors last time and said they were ok I will update once skoda assit have been out
