90/100w headlamp bulbs

Featured Replies

These are stated to be illegal and only for off road use.

Does anyone know whether they would fail MOT?

Do they dazzle oncoming traffic?

Also some prodcuts say these are not to be used with plastic headlight covers...would this effect the Octavia?

Primarily looking into getting these for my Celica....headlight are unbelievably crap...but if they work out good may be tempted to get a set for the Octy.

Already using Silverstars which are very good...but you always want a bit more.;):D

TIA.

Think that you have to look at the possibility of overloading the wiring loom if you're not careful. When I fitted these bulbs to my Golf GTI Mk 2 I also fitted an uprated auxiliary loom that I got from BR Motorsport.

Phillips Rallye were what I had in my Octy. Very bright (1.2 mile range on full beam :D

Never had any "complaints" from other drivers (unless I didn't dip them  ).

My lenses didn't melt and the wiring stood up fine.

Yes, and they aforementioned rallye bulbs are in my furby now. ;) They've been going so long in various Skodas that they're starting to wear out a little and i don't think the range is as good as they were when new. :(

Still, much better than the 55w standard main beam. Just might need to get new ones and have these as backups. :)

edit: and they don't affect the wiring, and its never come up in my last 2 MOTs that they were fitted. It did fail on headlamp dip once, but the internal adjustment **** cured that.

Ta.....will save me uprating the headlamps....on the Celica.

Hi

I ran 80 / 110w H4 with no MOT troubles before, but did find they dazzled people in front on diped beam so had to replace with 55 / 110w. Dropped them from their own relay on the loom. Easy job to wire.

Also used to run the Senator with 130w auxilliary driving lamps (built into the headlight shell as standard just before EU regs stopped it) These were run in parallel with the main beams. Never had MOT trouble with them either and you needed welding goggles on if you were coming the other way.
