CD Changer query

Featured Replies

Someone at work is flogging a CD Changer taken out of a MkIV Golf with the standard stereo. It's a Panasonic DP9061 - will it work with the Furby Symphony?

I dont know if it will work, it may not even though the VW one is made by panasonic. If you could make it work you would need to get a cable that goes from the panasonic interface to a blaupunkt (mini iso) (vw style) one.

If it is the standard head unit which is fitted in the Golf, it is usually a Gamma.

If it is, then the cd changer will work with the Skoda head unit.

The connections on the back of the Skoda unit is the same as the VW unit.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys.

The Golf it's from has a Beta . It's basically the same as the Gamma but has a mechanical tape deck, is front speaker only and no TIM. Well the one in my Bora was anyway.

Cable is included with the changer but might be a bit long for passenger seat mounting!

I'm tempted to get it as they want

sounds like a bargain. you can always ebay it if it's no good.

When I bought my VRS it didn't have a changer so I put the 8 disc changer

( panasonic ) and lead from a mk4 golf ( Gamma ) plugs in OK but the cable is slightly long although i was able to hide it behind the glove box

Thanks guys.

I'm tempted to get it as they want £45 with the cable. If it doesn't fit I can always give it my Mum for her Golf.[/quote']

swear the cable alone is about £45 new  if so bargin!

Your comments about the Beta and Gamma are correct.

If you have the cable and the changer, just plug it in the back of the Skoda unit and try it. It should work, so all you need to do is install it properly.

The bits for installing the changer under the seat are quite cheap.

Check VRS-stu's site for the part numbers.

If you have a storage box under the passenger seat then you will need to get the front for the drivers side (check for a recent post on this topic).

Take the seat out to fit the changer, it makes the job easier.

Hope this helps

I've just picked up the changer. There's a black wire hanging off the changer end with a bare end - any idea what it's for? The power seems to be sent from the head unit.

The cable is very long so I can boot mount if I want. Given that I cart computer gear around with my job I'm not convinced it's a great idea. Now to pay a visit to Halfrauds to get some Kenwood release keys on the way home.

If it's a single core cable it's probably for local earthing to minimise interference. I'd connect it without that first as if you have no inteference then you may not need to connect it

Been having fun with it in the dark tonight! Didn't work without the black cable, so hit the internet and found the Panasonic instructions advising it's a ground. Found something to earth it to and it clunked into life and works fine :D

The changer is mounted in the boot for the time being as the cable is over 15 foot long. The mounts stick to the floor and you cut holes in the carpet for the bolts. The brackets on the changer then attach to the bolts. Seems fine even tho the old brackets have been stuck to a Golf for a few years. I've mounted next it to the nearside wheel arch as there's no floor on the other side.

The earth wire is attached to one of the bolts for the rear light cluster - is this going to be OK?

What's the best way of running the cable permanently to the boot? I was thinking down the nearside of the car under the sill trim. Anyone got any better suggestions?

Should be fine mate

Should be ok too unless someone on here reckons you'd get interference by running down the nearside. Id route the cable down whichever side has the least power cabling there already
